I couldn't care less if he drinks at a show or not, and from past responses to my "I wish they wouldn't fuck up on so many songs" stance, I hold them to a higher standard than most. Just think it's kinda silly he thinks he's got to fill an empty wine bottle up with gatorade. He's obviously trying to live up to some sort of image.
I don't know... at first I agreed with you. But then I thought about what it would look like for Ed to be up there chugging on a bottle of Gatorade, and changed my mind. Also, he'd suddenly become an ad for Gatorade, and that's not so hot either maybe. Let's all remember, he IS still a rock god, and maybe he doesn't want to be on stage reminding people of little league soccer games, lol. Or he could go that way, and even start eating orange slices and stuff (his stalkers could start a peel collection).
(PS - is this Gatorade rumor even true?? I've seen plenty of hard evidence that Ed does drink wine, but none that he's switching out with Gatorade. One bottle has wine and one bottle has gatorade(which almost every singer drinks). He isn't acting anything.Member 164xxx

Good. Thanks. Ugh, poor Eddie, everything he does is scrutinized and criticized. Just let him drink Gatorade out of a wine bottle without judging, seriously. :roll:With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. ~ Desiderata0 -

I have no problem with it. It's funny at his solo shows he has a wine glass with gatorade in it.Member 164xxx

Isn't every rock start trying to live up to an image?
Probably, but it just reminds too much about a story I heard about David Lee Roth. There's a story told by Michael Anthony that he would put Jim Beam in his Jack bottles b/c it was cooler to be seen drinking Jack0 -

Ha. That is funny.
I remember someone commenting about that Portlandia sketch - how they'd never seen him drinking out of a glass before, but I guess only true if you haven't seen him solo. With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. ~ Desiderata0 -

I dont have a problem with it.....not sure why you would pour out wine and fill the bottle with gatorade though. The only answer is for appearance...he would look just as cool drinking out of a gatorade bottle."Going where the water tastes like wine!"0 -

Well I doubt they pour out wine. They probably re-use empty wine bottles.
Just thought of another thing... He can't be unscrewing and screwing on bottle caps. He has to be able to uncork whatever he's drinking with his teeth. See? it all makes perfect sense.
Seriously though, it could have something to do with branding. It WOULD be a massive ad for Gatorade.Post edited by PJ_Soul onWith all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. ~ Desiderata0 -

How do you know that?
I've seen him fall over on stage on multiple occasions...2003: Madison Square Garden 1
2006: East Rutherford 1, East Rutherford 2
2008: Madison Square Garden 2
2010: Newark

I wondered the same thing... however, it seems likely, because if he wasn't hydrating properly and just drinking wine, you would have seen him faint from dehydration rather than just fall down drunk. On the 2006 european tour, He was filling his wine bottles with water...
There are a couple HD bootlegs circulating that zoom in on him when he's drinking, I chuckle every time I watch it. It's SO ridiculous!0 -

I don't see why it's ridiculous. Really don't. He likes drinking shit out of wine bottles. Easier to open, they stay upright easier, he thinks it's fun, makes him feel like he's drinking more wine than he really is, whatever. Who cares? I think everyone (aside from Honking Seal, who is in love with Dave Abbruzzese) knows that Eddie Vedder just does what he feels like doing for his own reasons, not petty poser moves.
Back to the subject at hand, yes, the others all seem to drink beer, often Heineken, but other kinds too - probably whatever is around at the time.Post edited by PJ_Soul onWith all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. ~ Desiderata0 -
Back in '97 Jeff and I shared a few heineken's after a three fish show. Stone seems to drink them a lot when they play live.I'll ride the wave where it takes me......0

And it is clear that he drinks gatorade out of a wine bottle to "pose" like he is drinking wine..."Going where the water tastes like wine!"0 -

What makes this more ridiculous is that he has a kettle of hot tea, a mug & a bottle of water right at his feet yet he still has to keep up the wine bottle shtick. I don't know about you but when I hold up a half filled red wine bottle to the light it doesn't turn neon green! I took screen shots of my TV, when you see it on a tv in HD in person & you see neon green liquid swirling around in the bottle, you just laugh. It look like the stuff from Ghostbusters...0 -

Edmonton 2011-Ed was DEFINITELY drinking wine
Edmonton 2011-Jeff was drinking from a green beer bottle, Heineken shaped bottle, not Rolling Rock shaped bottle
Ed Solo 2011- Ed had 1 pint glass of red liquid (Gatorade ?) and 1 pint glass of water.
I would assume that he puts the Gatorade in a different container so as to not be a 'cheezy advertiser' of said product. Anywho, it could be red Kool-Aid as well. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.

Almost every singer drinks it? I find that hard to believe. I'm not a professional singer by any stretch but I don't think Gatorade would be that great of a choice. It really thickened up my spit and it made my throat sorta scratchy, when I used to drink it regularly. If it works for EV, that's one thing, but I doubt it's so helpful that singers are using it across the board. There are surely much better options.0 -

Maybe its Rooibos tea? It's red but not as red as Gatorade. Which is better for the voice than sugar sweetened drinks :?Are we getting something out of this all-encompassing trip?
Seems my preconceptions are what should have been burned...
