I am driving from St. Paul, Minnesota to this show. Was hoping people familiar with the area could give me some hints on wear to go in town for some fun before the show and perhaps sites to see when I'm there. Not looking for anything too touristee, but I'm always up for something new. Any bars, restuarants or any can't miss locations would be great!

It's Memphis... Beale Street is a couple blocks away. Touristy and not at the same time.

Rendevous ribs are the best I've ever had if you're into that.

I'd swing by Sun studios to see where Johnny Cash and Elvis recorded.
Lots of things to do there. One of my favorite towns.

Maybe catch a Grizzlies game if they're in town. Minor league ballpark is right there too.
  • BB Kings on Beale Street is a great place to hang out..There is also a Coyote Ugly there as well.

Handy music hall usually has good blues and it's just a bar no schtick
  • I worked in the media when I lived there from 2000-2003... Lived downtown a block from the Orpheum. I always insisted that any of my visitors go check out the National Civil Rights Museum... Powerful stuff... You MUST eat at Memphis Pizza Cafe
  • I was fortunate to get tickets for this show. Thanks for the posts, I'll be looking for some cool stuff and good food myself. I'll be checking out Rendevous Ribs for sure.

  • What do you guys think about the sets of the Southeast from Pearl Jam and Eddie? Seems like the Northeast and West get longer sets...? No big deal, just wondering if it was just me that thought that.

I forgot about the national civil rights museum. It is pretty awesome. They preserved the hotel room where Dr. King was shot. I haven't been there in years. I'm from Birmingham and our museum, dare I say, is as good or better as the national one. Check it out if you ever have the chance.
  • I am defiantly going to the Civic Rights museum. Looks incredible.
Do you guys have a local beer? I dont like the big beer companies' product because I like beer with flavor.
  • I live in Memphis and love downtown in the mornings. Just find a coffee shop and get on the $1 trolly to see most of the downtown area. It will give you time to take it all in and idea's about where you want to go later that night or for dinner.

Like others said before. Beale St. is very popular and I love B.B. Kings. If the younger guy is there (forgot his name) you will be blown away.

Map of the Orpheum Theatre and close hotels.

This is right downtown^ and very close to Beale St.

Depending on your money situation... I would recommend the Peabody for your hotel; although, the rooms are small, but the experience is worth it.

Get reservations at Texas De Brazil it's pretty much in the hotel, or a cab ride to The Melting Pot would be a great dinner experience.

Not sure how much time you have or money to waste, but the Casinos are about 40 minutes away.
