That's what the studio albums are for. Imagine how boring PJ shows would be if the crowd didn't make a noise.

    Japan '03 anyone?

Japanese fans react a lot different at concerts than other people do. Its cultural. That, and they were playing in 2000 seat theaters. those japan shows are, collectively, some of the best of the tour by far IMHO. amazing setlists, amazing performances

I think there is some shows that don't translate well to cd. For me, the Japan shows are that. I've no doubt they were great shows to be at but, for me, they don't come across good on cd. The Katowice boots are the same.

It's like the BA show, personally I think it's over-rated. Yeah the crowd is wild but as a show it does nothing for me, I didn't think the setlist is was anything special. I guess its finding that balance!

I only like to hear the crowd singing sometimes. Everything else is just unnecessary.

The point of the boot vs. studio is not to hear the crowd. It's to hear the spontinuity and energy of the band.. I agree though, when going to the show, the crowd should be loud for the live experience.. listening to a bootleg in your own home is not a live experience, and emphasis in the mix should be placed on the band, not the crowd. IMO.

Then you like the current boots over 2003 because that's what they've done. They've removed the energy of the show by lowering the crowd to almost non existence except for parts like the beginning of betterman and that can only be heard because the band isn't playing and as soon as they do the crowd disappears. Completely lame.

Actually, I like the warmer sound to the '03 boots. Tokyo is a great boot from '03 and you can't even hear the crowd because they aren't making noise.. it would be pretty lame if I was actually there though, but I love the boot.

I agree that the Japan 03' boots are some of the best. the sound quality, the quality and energy of the music and singing, plus it was early in the tour and the band seemed eager to play. The setlists are outstanding per my taste and the crowd...what little there was (especially sendai) loved what they were watching and hearing....the band was pretty much playing requests in the middle of the shows...give me tickets to see PJ with 2-3 thousand people in the crowd anyday....PJ to myself...yes!

I certainly agree about a 2-3k crowd, that would be awesome to be part of!

Pearl Jam isn't far from playing theater shows again. I'm sure that's what Ed would love. Especially since it's probably hard for them to sell out arenas in smaller markets.
