I think many of you are missing the good parts of Valentine's day.

The good part of Valentine's day is that it is a day when people practice doing the loving, giving, sweet things they should be doing most of the time if they want to be in a relationship where both people STAY in love. If you don't get Valentine's Day as an idea (and I don't mean the materialistic "buy, buy, buy" part) of Valentine's Day, you might be one of those people wondering why they fall out of love with their partners or their partners fall out of love with them when the relationship is no longer new.

Valentine's Day is just a day when people do MORE of what they should be doing all the time and that is: EXPRESSING LOVE for the people they love.

    Simple. That's all.

Skip the tacky cards. Skip the over-priced jewelry. Skip all the crap!

It's about expressing and cultivating the good feelings between people. (IMHO) :?

 I understand where you're coming from justam, I just think it's too bad that too many people need to be reminded to show love for the ones they love. If you truly love someone, you'd show it just about every day.

And this made up holiday actually makes those who don't have a special someone feel particularly bad. How is this justified?

to quote Maxwell, 'this is for lovers only'. I could take it or leave it~ don't love someone more or less just because it's Valentine's Day. Just an additional reason to show a little extra, a few more kisses, take the trash out.

Amen, sister. To all of that, amen.

(as an aside, I really miss the Valentine's cards my parents would send me when I was a kid. Actually, my dad did until he died, and my mom still does - different sentiments exchanged going from child to adult, but no matter. Don't care which day of the year I get them, I'll always embrace expressions of love and affection from those important to me)

Jeanwah, I agree with you too :)

    I had to laugh.

As with any external like I post, this has no nudity but some pretty harsh language. We're on the Pearl Jam fan site, I expect people who can handle the "f" word without losing their "s." But your boss may be different, so wait til you get home to watch it.

I certainly don't want people to feel BAD. Yikes!

I guess it's all how a person approaches it. Children enjoy it as a friendship day. ( For example, I sometimes receive cards and candy from my students.) It can be just for fun too!

being reminded to show love is way different than remembering to show love
and this definitely is seen in how one looks at things in general

of course people in loving relationships show love everyday..
it is the nature of the relationship

I say appreciate and focus on what loving relationships you do have not those
you think you are missing in life

and heck make a new loving relationship today ... reach out make a friend!

nothing wrong with this day. it can be a drag for those who have no one in their love life. i been there many times and it didn't feel very good to me either. for many years i was alone while everyone around me had someone loving them. (a great deal of that was my own choosing as i was protecting myself and my activities of not so on the up side...so to say)

in more recent times i am not sad like i used to be. if we have a calendar day dedicated to lovers, loving our friendships more, and boys and girls trading kissy kissy hugy hugy cards at school with little treats in them, i really don't mind. i figure why get uptight about it? who gives a fuck if lovers have a set day for chocolates and kisses? it is between them two, not me.

i figure it slaps the shit oughta gettin kicked in the nuts or having a solid day of kkk rallies and gettin a letter in the mail from someone who despises you and inside the letter is a inland taipan snake ready to kiss your face goodnight sweetheart... zing zang zig and done
