So the real question...Why is Pearl Jam ignoring the States?

Fact is Pearl Jam has played 49 shows in the States in the last 5 years....
And I consider that....
A fucking JOKE!!!!
Very hard to argue with this. Averaging 10 shows in your home country for the past 5 years sucks.
Obviously it suits the band to do that. And that's all that matters.2000: Manchester

No that isn't all that matters actually, band should pay more attention to its home country after 20+ years of support. Not everyone doesn't have a life and can travel to the middle of nowhere for a festival [/quote]

I know. I couldn't get to PJ20 either, living in a different country. But what's the point in people going on and on about it. It's happened, it's over. They'll tour the US this Fall.
If you can't make a gig, you can't make a gig. What do you want the band to do about it? I couldn't make the European shows in 2010 because I had other plans. Big deal, get on with life and enjoy when you do get to see Pearl Jam live!2000: Manchester

I've seen this excuse for various things the band does and it's just fucking lame. It really isn't all that matters, and you'd think they'd see that with the turn out to some of their shows and album sales.
Obviously the band is gonna do what it wants and people have to live with it. I just don't see what the big deal is with people taking issue with the way they operate, clearly as long as people don't take it overboard.
It's like people think they score brownie points with Ed or whoever when they post shit like that.0 -

It sort of is though. They aren't robots. They'll tour when they want to tour. Not when someone starts moaning because they only played 2 gigs in a year. I wouldn't mind but I'd bet the majority of people moaning that PJ didn't do more in the USA last year actually went to Alpine.2000: Manchester

The problem is fans think a band owes them something. This band owes nothing. If you don't like how they tour you can always be a fan of a different band. Personally I'd like if they played my backyard. Just seems unlikely and a silly thing to gripe about.0

For the record, I didn't go to Alpine
One thing I would like to clear up is that I have no expectation that they would listen to me when I "complain" about their lack of touring, nor do I think they have some obligation one way or another. However, this is after all a Pearl Jam message board, and having a discussion about how badly you wish they would be more accessible is not only a valid line of discussion it is also, quite frankly, a discussion of endearment and not anger. I understand that this doesn't hold a candle to posting pictures of how hot the bad members are  (sorry, I'm a guy), but nonetheless, it's just another form of expressing how much we enjoy them.

though I'd love to see a tour annoucement, no US tour has saved me so much money to pay off debts incurred by the 2006-2010 tours so I am not complaining too much!
A new album is what I'm looking forward to the most right now."All I Ever Knew" available now in print and digital formats at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and iBooks.0 -

Fair enough but I think to call a thread "Why is Pearl Jam ignoring the States" is just ridiculous. Not that you did that2000: Manchester

Oh come on...you know you can't question anything that PJ does around here! Once you do that, you become entitled or elitist.....what a fucking joke. We're all here because we love PJ....that doesn't mean we can't question things that PJ does.0 -
they havent done a real tour of the US since 06, and coming from someone from the south, that one was very limited. It blows my mind when I see a band like metallica announce a US tour of 50+dates and pearl jam announces like 9 shows, and then calls it a tour.9/4/98, 8/4/00, 12/8/02, 12/9/02, 4/15/03, 4/16/03, 4/19/03, 4/25/03, 4/26/03, 4/28/03, 4/29/03, 4/30/03, 7/8/03, 7/9/03, 9/28/04, 9/29/04, 10/6/04, 9/1/05, 9/2/05, 5/16/06, 5/17/06, 5/27/06, 5/28/06, 5/30/06, 6/1/06, 6/3/06, 8/5/07, 6/11/08, 6/12/08, 6/14/08, 6/16/08, 6/24/08, 6/25/080

And for those complaining about ticket prices, yeah it sucks, but remember: most people illegally download their music these days and it's impossible to make money selling albums. Ticket prices have gone up throughout the industry, not just PJ
I know they've got up but I still think PJs ticket prices are reasonable. Fairer than for a lot of bands. They have to make money somehow, especially to cover all the costs of touring.0 -

The cost of touring is pretty crazy these days. Freight costs are one of the biggest. As well as insurance. I think they do a decent job of not going over the top with the prices.0 -
I've pretty much given up on a real US tour like '98, '00, '03 or even '06. I've also grown frustrated with the planning of tours and the ticketing mess each time around. It's like they'll announce a tour, skip my home town, essentially force me to travel and then add a hometown show a month later. I don't have the energy anymore to try and plan my life around their schedule like I did in years past. If they play a Northern California show this year I'm 100% in. But I'm done traveling, I guess I'm just getting old, or maybe it's the fact that I've seen so many shows in so many places. Either way I don't stress on them like so many people on this board do. They are adults with families and have accomplished pretty much everything you can in music. I can see how it's become a hobby to them rather than a job. They will never get back to the level of creativity they showed between say '93 and '96, they had something to prove then, it's life, everybody grows and evolves. I'm just happy they are still together and I still get to see them play live, even if it's only once every few years. People need to relax and just enjoy the ride.06/22/95, 11/04/95, 11/15/97, 07/16/98, 10/30/99, 10/30/00, 10/31/00, 10/20/01, 10/21/01, 12/08/02, 06/01/03, 06/06/03, 10/25/03, 10/26/03, 09/28/04, 03/18/05, 09/01/05, 07/15/06, 07/16/06, 07/18/06, 07/22/06, 07/23/06, 10/21/06, 10/22/06, 08/28/09, 09/21/09, 09/22/09, 05/20/10, 05/21/10, 10/24/10, 11/26/13, 12/06/13, 06/28/14, 10/26/14, 07/10/18, 08/10/18, 10/02/21,0

Some good points, but I'd say their creative peak lasted about 3x that long. At least through Binaural and probably through RA even though the execution wasn't as good on that as the previous albums.0 -

I don't think they've done a real World Tour since 06. I think those days are over, they all have families now and priorities change. I guess we should stand in their shoes for 5 minutes - would we want to leave our families at home for months on end?2000: Manchester
