I was just commenting to my gf the other day how I just slipped in before a lot of traditional oldies stations (late 50's, all of 60's and early 70's) turned to mid 70's and 80's stations. So much of the music from the 50's, 60's and 70's is going to be forgotten and a lot of it is great traditional pop music. I like the general upbeat theme of a lot of classic top 40. There is also a lot of buried jewels (thinking nuggets box set 1965-1968).

I've also been doing some garage rock research and there are some damn primal tune from the 60's. You can easily hear the seeds of metal and grunge in many of the riffs.

  • i think one of the best things about mad men, besides the incredible writing, acting and sets, is the music.

i love that time period. sinatra, nat king cole, elvis, bing crosby, and tony bennett. I love that song "once their were greenfields" by i dont know who. and love Moon River.

I'm a bit of a diamond in the rough garage rock kind of guy. 98% of the stuff on garage comps isn't that great but that two percent is so beautifully raw and proto grunge and metal it's exhillerating. I have about two CD's worth of quality 60's garage rock with snotty vocals, loud music and fuzzed out guitars. Here are a couple more of my faves...

I love oldies....especially the first generation of rock & roll...Elvis, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, Little Richard, Fats Domino, Jerry Lee Lewis, Bill Haley, Big Joe Turner...and of course "Rocket 88"

Love oldies. Not all of them, but pretty much anything the Beatles were influenced by.

The Everly Brothers were highly influential to Lennon/McCartney:

I listened to the oldies a lot when I was a kid in the early 90s. Like an earlier poster, I would always hear oldies when driving with my parents. I really enjoyed the songs!
