  • just the title of the thread made me actually laugh out loud. talk about a propaganda piece, holy mother of god.

what's unsettling about the preventive detention piece, though, IF it is true, is that:
    a) the people criticizing this initiative are the same damn people that applauded GWB for doing the same thing, because they were "prisoners of war".
    b) obviously, it would just be plain wrong.

I have my doubts that this is actually what is meant behind this. I'd need to research this a bit more.

i would gladly take obama with a second term over ANYONE who considers themselves a republican, and on the condition that he has a filibusterproof senate and a 40 vote majority in the house.....but don't fret, because neither of which is going to happen.....

  • It's not really even controversial; Obama IS a war hawk. Unequivocally... he's just as much as a MURDEROUS WAR HAWK as Bush was. He's the pitiful tyrant; "I dont' WANT to have to do this... but we have to keep fighting illegitimate wars, extend the Patriot Act, and enact the NDAA which establishes the militarization and the police state here at home - something that no Republican even dared to do."

Make no mistake, Obama is the pitiful tyrant, a serial war hawk.

  • to expand upon that and talk more about the details...

he's expanded the war in Afghanistan sharply which has only served to threaten a break up of Pakistan which could be a catastrophe for the West, since we supported (edit, and continue to support) their radical islamic government and nuclear capacity.

In regards to Israel and Palestine, his position is just amazingly insane. The UN security council resolution called for an ending of settlement expansion (and calling them illegal) and Obama vetoed it... alone. He's directly responsible for disallowing peace for the Palestinian people, and for the aggressive and criminal actions of Israel.

He has signed a bill to keep Guantanamo open forever.

He signed a bill that allows US citizens to be indefinitely detained without trail or even "assasinated" for being SUSPECTED of an ASSOCIATION with "terrorism." The NDAA is loaded with euphemisms but in the end it is the beginning of the US Police State.

At least Bush was direct and forthright about his desire to police the world and "spread liberty" by way of force. Obama is the PITIFUL TYRANT.

Wow. Let's try to keep a couple of things in mind here:

    1. He's the relief pitcher here. He's dealing with the mess the previous regime created- one where no easy answer is available. What exactly is the answer for the mess your country is in? If the US simply packed up and left, this would signal defeat... yes? In such a scenario, would you have strenghtened or weakened the enemy your are engaged with at this point? With such a scenario, what would happen to the people in these middle east countries who have aligned themselves with your country as they are left to the mercy of the insurgents regaining their positions?

    2. He got the guy you wanted. Bin Laden somehow managed to evade GWB's efforts. I can see my house on Google satellite from my laptop... yet...

    3. Speaking of GWB... revenge in mind, he waged this war on Afghanistan and then Iraq- ignoring the fact that 15 of 19 9-11 hijackers were Saudi Arabian. I asked this question before without any response... even though the Bush family has extensive ties to Saudi royalty making 'revenge' slightly awkward... are we sure he had the right countries?

Please advise if anything I have written here is off base. I truly am trying to understand what the US citizen mindset should be, but this is not easy given the varying viewpoints I have read regarding economic and foreign policies.

no it wasn't. you had no clue why you thought he is a bad president, all you kept saying is that he was a bad president because fox news tells you so.

I'm not sure your response has anything to do with what I wrote...

    1. Bush's actions are irrelevant. We're talking about Obama's options and what he did or failed to do.

    2. Getting Osama bin Laden wasn't all that important, Bush had a chance to do it three (3) times but didn't pull the trigger. That said, if he is the guy we wanted, why are we still in Afghanistan? (note that bin Laden was in Pakistan, not Afghanistan)

    3. yeah I guess that just is another reason why we shouldn't be in Afghanistan...

i suggest you good folks try your hand at being president. it is a fact that not any of us here could do any better.
with all the ins and outs that go on daily, all the bullshit 19 miles thick...fuck off. it isn't one bit an easy task.

i do not follow this crap like some of you politically educated know it alls. i do know Obama has a enormous pile of shit to get to cleaning up. it will not happen in full in his years as president. this country's mess is only the small speck of crap out there in the world's disastrous ways.

any of you ever stop and actually dwell on the thought of what it takes to run this country? again, not one of us here could ever pull it off.

and here i am giving my opinion of our president when i do not get a newspaper, own a television, and do not watch news very often on this computer. i am talking/typing to myself i most cases i'm sure.

and by the way, didn't Obama just bring a huge sum of soldiers home just recently? was it something like 70,000 soldiers?

You forgot to mention Obama's hawkish words when speaking about Iran. He sounds like a warmongering republican.

Liberals here need to face the facts. Obama hasn't been all that different than what you'd expect out of a republican.

Compared to Dennis Kucinich or Ron Paul, Obama is definitely a serial warmonger.

You know Chadwick that's about the best common sense I've heard in a long time. That's one of the MAIN reason's back in early 2008 I gauranteed a Demorcrat (I voted for neither) of one sort or another would be the next President EVEN if they had to rig the election to do so. Let a Democrat try and clean this mess up and as we get further along just blame him for whatever comes down the pipe. Basically that's what has happened even if we had a Republican in office things would be no different not when this country continues to split itself in two...one for the donkey and for the other animal with the big ears.

excuse me for the abrupt language but... bullshit.

Obama escalated the war in Afghanistan alone. That is the President's decision. It would also be his sole decision to bring them all home immediately.

He alone reeancted the Patriot Act. If he doesn't sign it... it ends.

He could have vetoed the NDAA but didn't, and the "pitiful" part that I keep bringing up is that he made it seem like he didn't like doing it and didn't want to, but was *forced* into the decision to sign the NDAA. Pitiful.

He promised to end Guantanamo and has the power to do so, but has chosen not to.

He alone has the authority to veto the UN Security Resolution, and that's what he did. The US is the only country (along with some Pacific Island nation) to veto the Resolution which determines the Israeli settlements in Palestine to be illegal.

He is running the show on all these matters, and you can blame him individually for each.

Ok, but seriously, do you think any president acts of their own accord? When we're pissed off at a president are we pissed off at one person or an administration's decision? no, I'm right about Obama and you're right that it would be no different if the other party was in power. They're all corrupt, except for Ron Paul, Gary Johnson, Dennis Kucinich and a handful of others. If you vote for republicans (sans Paul) or democrats you're voting for murder.

The real power in this country lies with congress. The pres can veto til he's blue in the face . Congress CAN still force something through with a 2/3 majority.

Congress holds the purse strings. Without the cold hard cash to wage war , the war stops.
