obama had nothing to do with this...

Um, it sounds to me like they're LIFTING the ban -- at least partially.

Why don't you refrain from discussing the person, and just try to discuss the topic, Gimme.

Banning a damn frisbee on the beach ought should seem outrageous to any sane human being- no wonder Gubmint schills don't get it.

most of your posts are talking about how you are so oppressed by this big huge federal government. so i just figured that that is what you were implying by your thread title, when clearly this was an action that was not forced on you by the federal government.

thanks for explaining it to me   i can read you know. and the word "government" encompasses a lot of bodies. this one is a county commission. ill call bullshit on over encroaching government no matter where it comes from....now move on if you dont have anyhting to say about the actual story other than to re-read it to us all.

this is a weird topic. I see why they ban stuff like footballs and frisbees because when some drunk idiot hits you in the face with one while you're trying to relax on the beach, it can be irritating. But these rules are usually made by crotchety old folks who just dont want rigmarole in their vicinity. The way I see it, even the most crowed beaches have space if you're willing to walk a bit. The only ban I support on beaches is the ones involving litter, ie: cigarette smoking. There's noting worse that the nasty butts that are all over the sand.

I actually had a lifeguard come up to me and tell me that they were considering banning people from digging holes on the beach. I was digging a hole with my step daughter and he asked me to fill it back in when we were done because somebody was suing the county because they broke their leg falling in a hole they didnt see.

And here I thought that when playing / hanging out on the beach, or in a park, or wherever - and there are other people around - common sense and courtesy would prevail.

    Excuse me -- *should* prevail.
  • I think the most annoying thing on the beach isn't people throwing frisbees or balls. It's the kids who run around everywhere completely oblivious to the fact that they are kicking sand in people's faces because they need to leave no more than 2 inches between their feet and any blanket they pass. I've never been hit by a football, baseball, or frisbee on the beach and I've been going for over 30 years. It's practically guaranteed that some dumbass inconsiderate parent will let their kid run ahead of them and get sand in my face at least once per visit, though.

    Let me explain...
I live in L.A./O.C. There is a reason WHY this ban had to go into effect:
    Douchebags
That's right... douchebags. On those days where the beaches are crowded with people, MOST people are cool and toss Frisbees and footballs in close quarters. Not douchebags. Those are the morons that attempt 45 yard bombs through the field of towels and blankets. Imagine you and your family are at the beach and some Ochocinco wannabe continually rumbles through your shit to recover a pass he had no possibility of catching. Maybe a fight might break out? Well, fights broke out.
Can't ban douchebags... can control footballs and Frisbees.
    ...
As for the digging holes deeper than 18 inches... douchebags and douchebag larvae. City and County resources were called out on several occassions because idiots do not know the basic nature of sand and had been buried as their 4 foot deep holes collapsed on them.
    ...
Basically, laws are made because some people are kinda dumbfucks. I wouldn't be surprized if, in the future, there will be a law passed to ban you from handing out scoops of used kitty litter on Halloween... because some fucking douchebags will hand out scoops of used kitty litter on Halloween.

i knew why they did it....still, doesnt make it right. “We need to surrender our attachments to government in every aspect of life. This goes for the right and the left. We need to give up our dependencies on the state, materially and spiritually. We should not look to the state to provide for us financially or psychologically… LET US UNDERSTAND THAT IT IS FAR BETTER TO LIVE IN AN IMPERFECT WORLD THAN IT IS TO LIVE IN A DESPOTIC WORLD RULED BY PEOPLE WHO LORD IT OVER US THROUGH FORCE AND INTIMIDATION.” - Ron Paul

wave ryder, it is good judgement to wear a seatbelt when you drive because it saves lives. it is good judgement to have a speed limit. it is good judgement to wear a helmet while riding a bike. these things save lives and prevent injury, not only of those who are participating in such activity, but to those in the vicinity of those doing such activity. the issue is that some people are not responsible enough to use these freedoms that they have. a few idiots ruin it for everyone. as cosmo a few douchebags feel that there are no consequences so they ruin it for everyone. it is like in school when some delinquent puts gum on the underside of all of the desks and then gum is banned for everyone. if so many americans did not act like fucking morons or immature little kids, then the government would not have to treat people like kids.

are you going to complain about the big bad government infringing on your right to make stupid decisions? is it your right to ruin everyone else's good time by misusing a football or a frisbee?

i get what your saying but theres a difference between seatbelts and helmets and speed limits. Speed limits and stop signs protect you from others. Seatbelt and helmet laws protect you from yourself..... thats where I draw the line.

but frisbees and footballs.....come on. It reminds me of the Brady Bunch episode when Marsha gets hit in the face with the football.......

Cali is broke they need more money, the fines will generate more revenue........
I feel I could take care of this myself without having to call the cops...so what if a fight breaks out! Then the cops would at least have a legit reason to arrest or fine some one.

thats the thing. if ppl were really being a danger to others, there are already laws on the books to deal with that.

a few idiots ruin it for everyone.
See, this is what gets my goat. Those damned few idiots.

It's like automakers now putting backup sensors on cars - which jacks up the price...because a few numbskulls weren't paying attention (the ol' text and walk?) or some drivers didn't grasp the concept of mirror-checking and actually moving their head to see where they were going.

    Hmmph.

hells yeah...folks should get into fights then call the cops...

folks should be able to launch a football at unsuspecting family or dig a few holes that folks will fall into when walking on the beach at night...

why does the dirty money grubbin gubberment want to be proactive an keep folks out of fights and hospitals...?
