The Rolling Stones - Hot Rocks

I just found the mispress of this LP a little while ago. It has alternate cuts of Brown Sugar and Wild Horses. I have read that it is extremely rare but wanted to see if anybody else had an idea. In the matrix of all 4 sides is Shelley and on the 4th side is also 11-18-71. That is the date the record was pressed. I have read a few later dates and some with out dates or Shelley were pressed. It also stated this version was only pressed for the first two weeks when the 4th plate was swapped out to have the studio cuts of Brown Sugar and Wild Horses on it. Its in decent shape and all 4 sides play perfect. It even has the original pamphlet "211 Reasons The Rolling Stones Are the World's Greatest Rock and Roll Band." I have read all about it but don't know how many were really made or just how hard it is to actually find. Any help would be great. Thanks

That's a good find. It's not the rarest piece of Stone memorabilia, but it's not exactly common either. It's worth about $200-$300 usually if it's in really good shape, but there are reports of it going for $1,000. "Shelley" refers to a now defunct Long Island pressing plant that was cranking out Hot Rocks for about 2 weeks, unknowingly with two rough takes of the songs in question (both can be heard on Gimme Shelter) before it was corrected.

There are other Shelley pressings, but only the one you have (with the date 11-18-71) has the alternate takes and is the most collectible of them.

There are some editions that have the same date, but are actually a later pressing. But it sounds like you have the actual first pressing. The way you can tell is if the date is on the 4th side. Some sets may also have it on other sides, but even if it has that date on any other side, if it's not also on the 4th side it's not original.

Thanks. The sites I looked at said goldmine put it at a grand. Most I've seen went between 350 and 700. It's nice but I'd rather have Pearl Jam.

you'll really be in luck. It's a demo pressing of the "Got Live If You Want It" EP, that one is on sale right now on eBay for $15K.

Id like to get demo or test presses of anything. I only have a couple promos. That would be pretty sweet to own though.
