Best places? No clue, but I had a good meal at a Vietnamese place called Lemongrass. It was right next door to a bar called CBGB, which sounds like it'd be a total cheeseball place, but was actually pretty cool. The only downside was that it was smoky as fuck inside.

looks to be a decent bar in the hotel, or just around the corner....

There's a pretty cool piano bar called the Big Bang. Been there after a few shows. They take requests for tips will play about anything you can come up with. Lotta other bars in the same vicinity.

I think alot of the good places to eat are in the Loop or The Hill, not sure what there is downtown. If you feel like jumpin across the river to Fairview Heights there's a 17th St. BBQ(best in the world by some accounts) and a place called Lotawata Creek. I highly recommend both.

Go for the ranch potato salad and fresh pork rinds on the side. Most people rave about the pulled pork and ribs, but I can't ever get enough of the brisket.

i like to go classic on the sides...baked beans and corn.

speaking of St Louis....any issues walking from the scottrade center to down around the arch after the show? seems like it should be fine, but's always good to get a local's input.

When we went for the EV show last year we stayed by the arch. We were able to walk down to the baseball stadium but i had to stop. If you don't use a cane like i do and have 8 pins in your back it's not that bad of a walk.

Pappys is good BBQ but it's not downtown. We ate somewhere that was downtown but damn if i can remember it was an italian place. It was ok. If you goto Pappys get there early basically have it for lunch. It's not a far drive from downtown if i remember correctlly.

  • What show are you checking out in STL?

If you're looking for a little gambling action...check out the Lumaire Place casino downtown. It's right across the street from where the Edward Jones Dome where the Rams play. Really nice casino w/ nice $5 tables on Friday/Saturday nights.

mmm...that Pappy's place does look good...

pretty sure i did see them on tv once.

gonna be a tough call betweenn this and the 117st place...this place might win being it's a little closer and the original location vs the other one which is a build out.

making me hungry for good food

it's amazing. there is one at westport plaza which is at hwy 270 and page blvd/hwy 364. its not cheep, but it is excellent. westport plaza is about a 20 minute drive from the riverfront. if that. just take hwy 64/40 west to hwy 270 north, to the page/364 exit and you can see westport plaza from the highway. good nightlife in westport too, if you were staying a second night that is....

I made reservatiins, and than realized it was not downtown. I'd go, but driving is out of the question. Plan is two martini's with dinner and the woman can't drive my truck. Damn you manual transmission.

Which downtown steak place do you think is best, or what non steak place would you suggest?

there is a place on laclede's landing a few blocks north of the arch called jake's steaks. i have not been there in a few years, but it was awesome when i used to go. it is above a bar that used to be called boomers, but it is now called something else. if i remember correctly it was not too expensive either. there are good places all over the place. if you like italian the hill area has a ton of italian places and it is only about 6 or 8 miles from the riverfront.

i am not the best person to ask about downtown restaurants because i do not get downtown to do much other than drink these days.... i can tell you a ton of cool bars downtown but the restaurants i loved i am not sure if they would be convenient for you to get to or if they are even still here
