Anyone else going? I'm debating whether or not to book a hotel or just drive down both days. Might be cheaper to drive since i'm going by myself. Plus not sure if hotels are booked or whatnot. :?

I'm notgoingto the festival but I'm ging to see gaslight anthem at HOB on Friday the 22nd. Every hotel in AC has raised their prices crazy all weekend. I'm paying 145 to staying a the damn rodeway inn on Friday night. It pains me to pay that to stay in such a shithole but I don't h ave much choice.

summer weekend in jersey are always expensive at the hotels especially in AC. and if you are driving in on friday or saturday during the day i'd suggest leaving an extra hour or two at least. driving to jersey shore areas on summer weekends is a pain in the ass from friday afternoons to saturday night.

Hotels are expensive in AC on a summer weekend, although you can find cheap for the Sunday night. If you do decide to drive-in, drive-out, I know the jitneys have a park and ride set up for the weekend for $20 a day... http://jitneyac.com/events.php

I don't drive, but my hotel for Saturday has non-secured parking for $7 that you're welcome to take. Sunday I'm at a casino and don't know what the parking deal is.

And if you're looking for a ticket, my buddy's got an extra. He's on the forums so I can put you in touch.

I'd really like to go, big Tallica fan, so much so I abbreviate their name...I've only seen them live two times. And I love to see all these sweet other bands.

    bump for tomorrow. :D

looking forward to it. Going by myself, probably either parking at the AC convention Center or this parking garage near there called the Wave. Also driving back both nights (it's not too far but figured it's probably cheaper than a hotel which are mostly sold out).

Besides Metallica looking forward to Gaslight Anthem and Cage The Elephant on Sat. I love the Arctic Monkeys but i've seen them enough times (plus they are going on right before Metallica at another stage). Might try and catch Sepultura on Sunday and a few others.

just got back form the show. Pretty kick ass. Only saw a few of the bands. The first band I saw was a band called The Sword. They rocked. Real LOUD! Caught The Gaslight Anthem, I enjoyed them a lot. Don't think they played anything new though. Then saw about a third of Cage The Elephant's set, pretty fun live band. Next saw Modest Mouse. They were ok, about half of the audience didn't care for them which I understand. Metallica went on satge at about 9:15 and played til about 11:30ish or so. Nothing later than the "Black" album  Kinda weird when they "Ride The Lightning" album, played Ktulu first then Creeping Death, etc... and ended with Fight Fire

    Hit the Lights
    Master of Puppets
    The Four Horsemen
    Sad But True
    Hell and Back
    Ride The Lightning
The Call of Ktulu (First live performance since December 5, 2011)
    Creeping Death
Escape (World Premiere. Preceded by … more)
Trapped Under Ice (First live performance since November 21, 2010)
Fade to Black (First live performance since December 9, 2011)
    For Whom the Bell Tolls
    Ride the Lightning
    Fight Fire With Fire
    Nothing Else Matters
    Enter Sandman

    Encore:
    Battery
    One
    Seek & Destroy

    AMEN!
  • That was an epic day at Orion.

Metallica was on fire. So much fun to relive that music plus get introduced to new music by gaslight, cage, and artic monkeys. Cage the elephant was a fun act to see. Reminds me of vintage Eddie!

Got to the festival around 3:30ish. Gary Clark Jr. was playing. I never heard of these guys but they were really good (reminded me of The Black Keys). Then saw Best Coast on the main stage. They were fun and entertaining. Next on the main stage was a band called Eric Church. They were southern boys. Mainly talking about drinking and smoking, pretty good though. Metallica came on around 8:30 and played until about 10:45 or so. Set list:

    Hit the Lights
    Master of Puppets
    Fuel
    For Whom the Bell Tolls
    The Shortest Straw
    The Black Album
    The Struggle Within
    My Friend of Misery
    The God That Failed
    Of Wolf and Man
    Nothing Else Matters
    Through the Never
    Don't Tread on Me
    Wherever I May Roam
    The Unforgiven
    Holier Than Thou
    (Followed by drum solo)
    Sad But True
    (Followed by bass solo)
    Enter Sandman
    Encore:
    Blackened
    One
    Seek & Destroy

It was fun to the Black Album and they started with the last track and worked their way backwards again. Only problem I had was they played some of the same songs again. Hit The Lights to start, Seek & Destroy to end. One, Master. Come on guys you could have mixed it up a little better.

I enjoyed the first day more.

Looks like it was a fun couple of shows. It would have been cool of them to cut down on the repeats a bit and maybe bust out some of their newer stuff, too. But I'm sure you had a great experience. I wish I could have been there.

what was the crowd size like? 'MMR on saturday said they were expecting around 75,000 saturday night but review in paper on sunday said it was maybe 25,000 so not sure what to believe. Really curious because got to think if Metallica can't draw more than 20-25k for a festival with a much better lineup than BudFest how the heck can Jay-Z/Pearl Jam draw anywhere close to that? anyone that was there have any thoughts? and how was getting into AC and the show(s) in general?

I heard ticket sales were poor. I think Sat. night had more people than Sunday night. Seemed like there was more than 25k people there. I read around 30-35k though. I would have said around 50k though :? Hear are some of my pics for those on facebook:

I can't believe they actually thought that lineup was going to get 75,000 to show up. I dig most of the bands that were there but I think a lot of Metallica fans weren't too happy with the lineup, they'd rather have the Big 4 there and have that be the festival.

Also wondering if Metallica will be performing 2 albums in their entirity like they did last year with Ride The Lightning and The Black album?

Now if they do Master Of Puppets and And Justice Fo All in I would seriously consider going to this.

Just heard about this festival on the radio this morning, 93.9 the River in Detroit/Windsor is giving away tickets daily to the 10th caller at like 7:45AM and again at like 12:30PM.

I am very intrigued and considering going to this, seeing as how Belle Isle is about a 30 minute drive. Chili Peppers would be my reason for going, although I'd like to see Metallica. I remember watching Woodstock '94 on Pay-Per-View and thinking that Metallica was awesome live, but have never got around to seeing them since then.

Also Silversup Pickups would be sweet, Deftones, and Bassnectar. I've heard Gogol Bordello is a great show too, but I haven't seen them live.
7/19/13 - Wrigley Field, Chicago, IL
    10/11/13 - Pittsburgh, PA
    10/12/13 - Buffalo, NY
    10/16/2014 - Detroit, MI
    5/10/2016 - Toronto, ON
    3/24/2020 - Hamilton, ON
    9/7/2023 - Chicago, IL

It's up to you. I bought a pair of Metclub Ultra Passes: The Met Club Ultra Passes is only available to Met Club members. This special ticket includes access to the front "pit" area closest to the stage during Metallica’s set, your own lounge area with food and beverage for purchase, better air conditioned restrooms, and a separate entrance to the grounds. Ultra passes are $225 each, good for BOTH days with no service charges. So in other words, if you have regular GA tickets, you will be able to be as close to RHCP as possible, but for Metallica, the closest you will be is approximately 100-150 feet.

This festival is not just about going to see plenty of bands. There are a number of activities to do while the fans are down there. This will be the first time I go to this festival. Here's the website for Orion Music and More if you are still thinking of going.
