Acoustic Guitar Repair

So, I decided to get a acoustic recently...

Found a good deal on a Takamine. Good action height, hardly a blemish. Put on a new set of strings, polished up the finish, and oiled up the fretboard, and it was like getting a new guitar!

The problem I have now is, one of my little ones tossed something and it put a small gouge in the top near the edge binding. It didn't go too deep, is only a little over an inch long, and appears to be mainly cosmetic. Quite frankly it's covered up by my arm when playing. But, I fear that my sleeve is going to snag on the fabric and cause more damage (i noticed a small piece of fuzz from my sleeve on a small splinter yesterday!).

So the question is...is there any way to patch/repair so that further damage won't be done, or am I shit out of luck and have to deal with it?

  • Or just use a high grit sandpaper and get rid of the part that catches your sleeve. Learn to appreciate the dings!!! Especially ones from your children. They add character.

    HAHA!

    Nowhere near that bad!!!

I wonder how the sound projects with 2 holes though?!

    Stereo Acoustic?

I agree with the character part, though. But it would have been nice to have made it a week before getting the 1st one. That's the risk associated with having 9 month old twins I guess. In fact, I pulled out my bass for the first time in over a year today and was just looking at some of the dings on it, and was thinking to myself how I remember how each of them came to be. And it's been almost 15 years since I gigged out with it and gave it it's battle scars!

Best advice I ever read for having kids and guitars......Get your 2 favorites out of their cases, hold one in each hand parallel to each other about a foot apart, take the guitar in your right hand and swing it about a foot and half away from the other guitar, let gravity take over, repeat with the guitar in your left hand.

If you can't fix it, duck it. If you can't duck it, fuck it.
