I think Do The Evolution is their best song.

After years of listening PJ, hearing countless boots, and honestly taking a pretty big break after getting a little tired of them, and now going back to listening them alot, I came to conclusion that DTE is their best song. Its the one song that ALWAYS gets me pumped, Eddie ALWAYS sounds good on it, be it 1998 or 2011, and it flows so freaking damn well. Other than Eddies great vox, there isnt anything I can pinpoint about the song that stands out particularly. The guitar riff isnt anything "flatout incredible", the solo is nothing incredible, it isn't their heaviest song, yet as a whole its just the best song live. I think it captures their old sound, and their new sound perfectly.

Eddie even said it's his favorite song to play live (well ok he said that in 98 from SVT but still)

Well if I skipped the first few sentences of your post I would have said you hated the song

I agree with you that its a great live song. Great any where song matter of fact. I would disagree its the best of the catalog. It is up their though. Its my wife's favorite song and that was a shocker to me because she is not a huge fan like us crazy forum nuts :D

Just from the Yield album I think Faithfull is a better song. In Hiding is almost as great as DTE also :D

    One of my favorites

Love the guitar solo in the middle, and Todd McFarlane did a great job of matching his animation to it in the video. Plus you get Stone on backing vocals. The music and Ed's lyrics/tone are incredible.

Yes Problably the best video to tell a songs meaning ever. Every time I see Todd at his store here in AZ I have him tell me his story about making the video with Ed. He now says NO Not again

That's cool. I was a big fan of his artwork back in the day. I still have the entire first series of the Spawn comics. Incredible illustrator.

What I was getting at was that there isnt anything that stands out about the song, just everything as a whole makes it an amazing song.

I love hearing DTE but it has been played to death for the last 13 years. I think they could take it out of the equation for a couple of tours along with Small Town, Betterman, Why Go, Animal, Given To Fly, most of Backspacer and probably more besides. I love these songs but just for a change lets here more Garden, Deep, Rats, Dissident, In My Tree, Who You Are, Faithful, Ghost, Wash, You Are, Love Boat Captain, Evacuation, Thin Air, Rival, All Those Yesterdays, Tremor Christ, Big Wave, Alone, Brother, etc, etc, etc, etc................................! Etc.... 8-)

OP, out of curiosity, do you think that this song best represents the band's total catalog output as well? Or is it just a personal favorite?

Such an awesome live song. I could hear it every show for the Ed improvs alone.

Gary, you are now officially in charge of the setlist for Manchester!!! I must admit I'm sick of hearing Betterman & Small Town on the boots from the last few tours. I'd love to hear more from No Code and Riot Act this tour and go back to Binaural also. Given To Fly and Evolution are the only two songs I've seen at all 6 gigs I've been, obviously that will change at the Manchester gigs cos they both songs won't get played both nights.
