there should be no permanent veto powers. if your country commits war crimes, like the us did in iraq and afghanistan, or looks the other way while human rights are being violated like russia and china have for decades, then you automatically lose any moral high ground. and as such, you should lose your veto power too...
but unfortunately, the more power your country has, the more they get to dictate what happens in any specific conflict in the world.. some get addressed while others get ignored...
syria has oil so of course the us wants to intervene, but that is not in the interests of china and russia...
i guess it all depends on your country's interests..
sad world we live in here...
"Well, you tell him that I don't talk to suckas."
Of course, it's pretty ironic that the United States is criticizing Russia and China for using their vetoes when the US has used the veto power more than every other nation combined in defence of Israel's occupation of Palestine.
and in a nutshell, the underlined part is why the united states is so disliked around the world. our government fails to recognize that. you want to stop being a target for terrorists, be more evenhanded and stop looking out for only your own interests. it is a simple solution really...

It would be interesting to see the US's reaction if they were asked to give up their veto power in response to their complaint. For all the whining about the atrocities in Syria (and they are atrocities), I can't imagine the US even entertaining the thought of giving up the veto. Then again, I don't think anybody on the security council would be that quick to give away such an underhanded privilege.
