Just saw this, and somewhere, Freddie Mercury is rolling over in his grave: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/adam-lambert-is-queens-new-singer-20120203

"Adam Lambert is apparently the new singer for Queen, replacing the American Idol winner's own late idol, Freddie Mercury. Lambert broke the news to the U.K.'s Daily Star.

"The intention is to pay tribute to Freddie and the band by singing some fucking great songs," he said. "It's to keep the music alive for the fans and give it an energy that Freddie would've been proud of." Queen previously toured with former Bad Company singer Paul Rodgers taking Mercury's place.

Speculation has been high since Lambert was joined by surviving Queen members Brian May and Roger Taylor during his Idol finals appearance in 2009. In November, they performed together at the MTV EMAs in Belfast.

Lambert said he had no intention of replacing Mercury, who died in 1991. "That's impossible," he said. "The way I'm choosing to view it is that it's a great honor and one I'm in no way going to shirk." Lambert's second solo album, Trespassing, is due in March. "

  • I think his music sucks, but he's got a good voice.

    That and my girlfriend likes him and if I got dragged to a show, I'd rather see him play Queen songs than his own shit.

    There is nothing official about this. The only thing official sources have done is deny this.

    After checking out a few vids of various people filling in for Freddie(Lambert, Robbie Williams, Paul Rodgers) I can honestly say that Queen would be better served to just go on tour playing instrumentals.

    I think the problem is that there was far more to Freddie than his incredible voice, his personality and style just can't be matched. Having said that I do understand that Brian May and Roger Taylor want to go out and play those songs, which is fair enough.

    Lambert isn't necessarily a bad shout, he does have a vocal range to rival Freddie's - his version of Feeling Good is a vocal masterclass:

    I agree. Love Queen's live Aid performance from 1985. Freddy had an amazing vocal range.

    Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

    I agree, no one could ever replace Freddie Mercury, but Adam Lambert? That makes me sad :cry::cry:

    They should just rotate their lead singers. Adam Levine, Lenny Kravitz, Prince, Beyonce...endless possibilities! Maybe even Ed and Chris Cornell, but I can't really see it. Yet.

    Ooh, I know. JT!! :mrgreen::mrgreen::mrgreen:

    Queen were my favourite band before PJ came along. Ive never heard of this Adam Lambert guy. Personally I think George Michael made a good Queen frontman after Freddie, at least his voice was up to it.

    Although I'm not a massive Queen fan, just a casual one really, I still think that might be the greatest live performance of all time. It's one long goosebump fest, an incredible show.
