Thurston Moore w/ Kurt Vile

Saw this show the other night.
Kurt Vile, who I was very psyched to see, as the opener was pretty good. I like his studio stuff. While I enjoyed his set, I am not sure I would want to see him do a full set. It was a little droney.
But Thurston Moore VASTLY exceeded my expectations. He played with a 5 piece: him on acoustic guitar, another acoustic guitarist, a violinist, a harpist, and a drummer. They absolutely KILLED. I have heard some of his solo stuff and I like it. It's very mellow, some finger picking, some interesting progression, and I sort of thought it would be one long chill set. I was partially wrong. Some of the set was chill, and even included 2 spoken word pieces. But they actually delved into some Sonic Youth type climax and feedback jams (on acoustics no less!). Watching a harpist join in on a building chaos jam is pretty freaking cool.
If this show comes around and you like Sonic Youth in even the slightest bit, go see it. Well worth it. $30, and it was at the Somerville Theater in Somerville, MA. Tiny venue. Not even sold out. People missed out....it was great.

I know what you mean about Vile I saw him open for J Mascis and kind of felt the same way.
although his cover of the boss's downbound train is great.
I have not see Moore solo it sounds like he has really found a great place for himself now.
