Actually hate a lot of their stuff. but it's gotta be said. Tiny Music is a fantastic record and Adhesive is the best fucking song they ever did.

Definitely one of the best. They don't really have any bad albums and most of the stuff before the breakup is great. Shangriladida is really underrated.
  • I'm a fan of the older stuff. Adhesive is a fantastic song.

I used to listen to STP a TON back in the day. Core and Purple were in heavy rotation. Tiny Music a little less...

And then when Weiland went off to rehab and the rest of the guys hooked up with a new lead singer to form the band Talk Show... man... that stuff really sucked.

Nowadays I don't listen to any STP. Reminds me of some shitty times (personally), and it feels more and more like a rip-off band. I equate them to Nickelback a lot these days (even though nobody deserves that classification).

Talk show is a good album. I enjoyed it.

Not a Huge STP fan, but like alot of their songs. One of my faves by them is kitchenware and candybars. Such a sad song, but one of my faves of theirs.

STP is still one of my favorite bands! I've something awesome in every album... But weirdly I haven't given enough chance to their last album, thanks guys for reminding me to give it a second try.

STP is one of those bands that when they're on top of their game they're fantastic, but when they're not they're pretty terrible. To me at least. The first album didn't do much for me, aside from Creep, Sex Type Thing, and Crackerman I found it to be just kind of generic grunge. I don't think that was really their sound or style, I don't know if they were trying to cash in on grunge or if the record company talked them into it, or if they really were grunge and just didn't do it too well, but that first album just sounds like a band going nowhere even though it has a couple of good songs.

Then they came out with Purple which I don't think has a single bad song. It's a masterpiece in my opinion. Then Tiny Music which has my favorite STP songs, but as an overall album I don't think is as strong as Purple, but still very great. Everything after that I didn't care for.

I remember going to a music store to buy No. 4 when it came out at midnight. I was so excited, on the strength of Purple and Tiny Music this was a band well on the way to being one of my favorites and dare I say knock either Pearl Jam or The Stones off the top spot, or join them in a three way tie. I was so excited, I put the CD in, and was just utterly disappointed. And from there they just continued to slip further away from the top spot, to the point where every once in a while, 2-3 time a year I might listen to them. I still love those two albums, but I can only listen to the same 2 albums over and over. To me they just fizzled very quickly, and it's very baffling considering the way they were going. But I'm guessing drug addiction and band conflict can do that. I do realize some people like those post-Tiny Music albums, but to my ears they just all sound like filler.

I agree 100%! I listened to purple and tiny music to death when they both came out, but I think I've only listened to No.4 and Shangri la dee da a couple of times...And I haven't even heard the new one!

I think STP is one of the most original sounding bands there is. There's one obvious very Aerosmith-like track on the newest album, but other than that I can't think of another instance where I thought that they ripped somebody off. They have about as much range in their music as just about any band ever so you can't call them a one-trick pony.

I saw them live the same year as this was filmed, I wasn't really expecting much because it was before I had seen any footage of them live, and they were touring Shangri la de da, which I wasn't really a fan of, but they were mind-blowing, in my top ten gigs of all time for sure.

  • STP are one of my favorite bands. One of the most diverse bands of the 90's, every album sounds different from the other. Not even close to a ripoff, demoed many Core songs before Pearl Jam existed or Soundgarden/Nirvana released their breakthrough albums. They suffered from the fact that they weren't from Seattle, even though they grew up with the same influences as those guys. Classic and punk rock. Scott Weiland is just an amazing at creating melodies and abstract lyrics, a true legend. Their songs still playing regularly on rock radio shows they have stood the test of time. I loved their self-titled album from 2010 too.

Overplayed but def still amazing. I finally got to see STP in '08 sitting in the 3rd row and they opened with "Big Empty", such a perfect entrance song.

edit: You inspired me to search for this vid and here is that very entrance.
