I am considering going back to study, I need a career change.
Considering these fields.
If I go ahead it will be online learning as I work full time.

For you teachers, lawyers and psychologists out there....is it worth pursuing a career in one of these fields?

For teaching I am looking at maybe turning my marketing degree into a university teaching career tutoring/lecturing marketing subjects.

That's I want to do for my living! :D I just finished my master (MSc Advanced Multimedia Design & 3D Technologies) in London, UK (Brunel University) and now I'm preparing for my PhD. Actually, until the end of March I will re-submit my master dissertation in order to upgrade it. Sorry, but as you can see I cannot help you with these fields (Law and Marketing) as my BSc is in an also related scientific field with my master degree: Cultural Heritage Management & New Technologies, specialization of Cultural Technology (University of Ioannina, Greece). Good luck with your future studies! I think you made the best choice in your life! :D

  • Probably a Psych degree would be proper for complement for marketing... always good to know how the human mind ticks and twist it so you can sell more, more, more! ;)

I worked as a personal assistant for a partner of a law firm for 4 years....they're all miserable....work VERY long boring hours....none of them seemed to "love" their job....and quite a few didn't even really "like" it at all.

I considered doing law at uni instead of doing commerce in my early 20s....I'd never ever become a lawyer now after working at a law firm....EVER.

In saying that, I'd never ever become an accountant either and that's what I studied. I hate offices. I spent 10 years sitting in two fucking offices....that's no way to live....glad I saw the light.

I'm a first year teacher and I love it. My wife has been teaching for 7 years and she loves it as well. We both teach students with Autism - I teach 6th graders, she teaches kindergarten - and, while it is a challenge, it can be very rewarding. The pay obviously isn't great and we know we'll never be rich. That said, we get a lot of time off including 2 months during the summer so it has its obvious benefits. Good luck to you in whatever you decide to do.

EDIT: I forgot to mention, I was a Finance major in college and I didn't really like that type of work. I always wanted to do something that would help others, so teaching worked out perfectly for me.
I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.

  • Yeah I heard lawyers are miserable and spend more time at work than anyone.
Not sure, I would hate to represent some killer or rapist.

Ziggy, the office environment is killing me.
I've gained 4kgs in 6 months, with my old job I was walking a lot.
Now I am stuck in a chair all day long in a small office.

The corporate environment is destroying my soul. :(
