I if this is the dirsction we ware headed going "green" then cool..long as it's not my only option as a electric vs. fuel powered car....gotta have the dino bones in the tank. :D

    Electric cars, hybrids, propane driven vehicles- it's all good.... but not the solution. The solution is fewer cars, less driving, more mass transportation, trains and walkable communities.

    I think Paolo Soleri got it right back in the 60's.
    The future is (if it ever is to be "right") in Arcologies.

    The only way to permanently reduce the foot print is to ... well ... permanently reduce it.
    Get people to abandon the isolated structure version of "private property" and re-embrace a technologically-juiced-up community-commons ideal. When people do NOT have to travel ... period ... to shop, socialize, and work ... that's when we will have hit the zeitgeist.

    Start building these things, and start phasing out tract housing en masse.

    If Obama ever wanted a "public works" project ... getting the ball rolling by funding a design-build competition for a few choice location Arcologies would be the best idea (imho).

    But I reckon that would be "market interference" by the public sector.
