Has anyone else found themselves just ridiculously down and unable to focus on stuff after watching this? I've played it a bunch now since it arrived (it rotates with Pearl Jam 20) and have found myself depressed and worse that I don't need to share, after every time. Opening with his fathers'eulogy means that it (the sadness or whatever it is) starts at the very beginning. is turning into something I love and can't stop watching but cannot bare to watch either
I don't mean to offend anyone, a lot of what I say should be taken with a grain of salt... that said for most of you I'm a stranger on a computer on the other side of the world, don't give me that sort of power!

I've watched it several times since I got it about 3 months ago. I agree - it certainly does bring me down a bit considering the great talent we all lost.

It's a great movie - and one that I've made my 16 year old nephew watch. He's a musician (can play by ear so easily) and has already started to struggle with addiction issues.
I'll ride the wave where it takes me

  • That's good though hopefully he'll get something out of it, I sometime sort of wonder if I get so down because I identify with it a bit too much. Don't know, he was incredible though

  • i watched it and felt sad as well..

dont think his mother or father really understood him or his tallent until he was lost to them...

and even his brother seemed weird to me..

great shame he died so young...but then there would be no pearl jam if he had not i guess..but a few of andrew's comments make me think he would have ditched the band and gone solo..so maybe there still would have been a pearl jam..

crown of thorns will always be my favourite song...

I watched it for the first time the other day and was mortified at how casual this family is and was about drugs, alcohol and addiction. Don't these people realize helped kill their son/brother and then celebrated it with a documentary? I guess I appreciated their candor, but still.

Certainly we'll never know if they would have made it with their music or as a band or if anyone ever would have heard of them without PJ's formation. But he certainly was a great songwriter and entertainer who probably did NOT want all that "band responsibility" they talked about in PJ20 — he wanted to play live.

And it would have been nice to see more concert footage in that one. I have an old MLB VHS (along with AIC, Mad Season and Soundgarden ones, too), but don't remember what's on that. Wish those were all on DVD.

I'm interested in getting this box set, and I would like to ask you a question, do you have the original one or a burnt copy? if you have the original, does it come with subtitles menu?

I got a sealed original one on the bay for 24 plus free shipping from the UK and the seller now has it listed below 23 bucks. It comes with the movie, the Malfunkshun CD that Stone released in 1995 with two bonus tracks, plus a second CD of rare Andy stuff.

I'm not sure what you mean by a subtitles menu. Do you mean subtitles as in closed captioning? The menu itself does have different things to look at (scene selection and bonus footage) or adjust (audio). Hope that helps.
  • There are no subtitles, but the cd of Andys stuff that hasn't been released before is pretty great.
If the VHS you mean is Love Bone Earth Affair, then I don't remember it having too much concert footage. Did have the proposed video for the single though I think
