Yeah, I wholeheartedly agree...although I have a feeling Cedric's post might be tongue-in-cheek.

Sparta toured with them in 03, so it's not exactly a reach.
Wasn't the original split b/c the Sparta guys wanted to go more mainstream though? If it's tongue-in-cheek it sounds like a jab at his newly returned bandmates.
I don't know the ins and outs of the break up, but I think it's cool that TMV got more success from trying to do something they believed in over trying for mainstream success.
As for ATDI opening, not a big fan of theirs overall(trying to get into them recently), but I think PJ could and has done alot worse as far as opening bands.
I imagine he's not being facetitious. Jim and Sparta in all likelihood had a great experience opening for PJ, the nicest dudes in the world. So I'm sure Cedric has heard stories of how cool they are, appreciates their business model, etc. Plus it's great exposure.

Well you need to educate yourself, start off with Relationship of Command and take it from there.

I'm a fan of both Sparta and Mars Volta and I think it just came down to musical differences. If you look at Jim's other projects like Sleepercar, you can tell the whole Pink Floydian aesthetic of the Mars Volta just wasn't for him.
As for ATDI reforming, hopefully it'll be half as good as this:

Honestly? That clip isnt even that good, terrible sound quality and its not on of their best songs either. This is the one I usually use for the uninitiated. One of the best live clips I have ever seen IMO.
