Yep....I owned a real estate office (I sold businesses, not houses) for 6 years where I worked a ridiculous amount of hours 6-7 days a week. After the 2009 PJ tour I thought FUCK THIS SHIT so came back, thought of a new business idea, taught myself web design, got out of real estate....and now I have an online business and make websites for clients from the comfort of my own home. :D I really like it....and it will eventually lead me onto more creative pursuits which I will eventually love!

That's the main goal....to work towards a creative occupation "I love"....because life's too short to be spending the majority of your time doing shit you don't love or at least like a lot.

I'm working toward a change. Original degree in theoretical comp. sci., had kids, stayed home with them and couldn't keep up in field because of full time mom duties. Became a fitness instructor, bought a fitness center; have taught and run this business for 13 years, but I'm tired of it, burned out, and bored silly. So I'm returning to graduate school (eventually- right now I'm auditing undergraduate math classes for review) to complete an MS in math that I started before kids. I'd like to be a math instructor maybe at a community college- I won a teaching award back when I was in graduate school, and if I know a subject I'm pretty good at teaching it. So there- you're not alone.

I don't call it a 'career'...I worked for a big huge cell phone company for 5 years. Hated the office politics, back stabbing, and thought 'how can I help other people?' So I decided to work in the veterinary field. They hired me with zero experience, and I worked there for 5 years. The people that I worked with left me with a poor outlook on that industry...really sad, I loved the work. I don't think I could go back doing that (yes, it was that bad).

So now I am trying to decide what I want to do, probably go back to school...I really respect people that 'just know' what they want to do in life.
The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.

I've changed jobs, but always did the same type of work. But it's still a challenge. The first time was because the government eliminated the agency I worked for. I was there ten years and I loved the job. That was tough, but you adjust.

Good luck to you conman. and thank you for your service.

major learning curve for me. Much of trucking is as it happens knowledge. From what I understand, it never gets "easier" that way. Met dudes who say they've been at this for 20-30 yrs and STILL learn something new about the business of getting shit from A to B.

    I've changed careers 3 times.
I was/kinda still am a photographer- did that for 7-8 years.
Then went into computer repair- fixing mac's for 3-4 years
    and now I'm a chef/pastry chef for 10 years + a mom of a 2 year old.

The hardest thing to do was just to let go of the fear of finding a job and not having the money to support yourself. When I went from a full time job to a freelancer- that was scary- but it was all about having confidence in myself and my abilities. And everything worked out just fine.

Good luck on your next endeavor Conman.
