...but I do have an iPod. Once again, I am part of the problem.
And once again, the American consumer is digging his own grave.

I saw that the article was far too long after I pasted it this thread. I'm sure using the link isn't a problem.

i try really hard with my consumer dollar ... i support companies that i think are doing the right thing even tho it costs me more ... but some things are harder than others ...
if someone can point me to a smartphone that does a lot of what the iphone does - i'm prepared to dump it right now ...
Oh please.
oh please yourself ... do you have a point or are you trolling?
and now I will laugh all the way home...
actually ... i'd say over 50% of my clothing either comes from second-hand stores or from companies that have been deemed environmentally responsible such as patagonia ... definitely know electronics are harder to come by ... but when i bought my tv ... the one i got got a high green rating for being manufactured in a closed loop factory ...
what exactly are you going to be laughing about? ... the fact people have died working in factories to make your phone!? ... with each passing post of yours - you make yourself less and less relevant ...
Hahaha, I knew you were going to have a post like that. My computer actually screwed up and I just got back in.
Plenty of companies care about their employees. How is your statement any less of a trolling comment?
There is certainly more that can be done everywhere. And it is advantageous to workers in the Americas, the EU, etc for the standards to be risen in factories across the globe.
I would really like to tour some of these factories myself and get to ask questions and see what is really going on.
how is my comment trolling? ... asking if there are any manufacturers that care? ... obviously, under the context of this thread - we are talking about companies that manufacture in china and developing countries ...
It's China. The utopian model society for many AMT fans. So I'm confused that there could be anything wrong there at all.
BUT... If they don't like their working conditions, then they can rise up, have a little revolution, and institute a representative gov't that ensures fair working conditions.
People died building skyscrapers in NYC. What? Are you gonna never go in a building again?
Are you gonna sleep outside for the rest of your life to protest the dangerous and cruel working conditions involved with the construction of skyscrapers?
Two stuntmen died making The Expendables 2- Are you gonna never go to the movies again?
Relevant? Here's some advice: Start with realistic, then work towards relevant.
This seems... eh... kinda silly. And if you think I'm giving up my iPhone- you nuckin futz!
No, I don't believe it was a trolling comment and neither was mine. It was an opinion. And yours was overly generalized and ridiculous.
As for your comment about where they manufacture, I'm not sure I understand your point. I know we are talking about companies that manufacturer in those places. My comment about Americas and EU was related to the reality that if you can raise the standards in China and developing countries, you remove some of the $ incentive for work to be done there....benefiting the worker's in the Americas and EU.
first of all ... i'm not sure how you can say "Oh Please" isn't a trolling comment ... it's like saying "whatever" when someone says something ...
and secondly, my comment isn't ridiculous ... just read cjzoly's comment ... he pretty much reiterates my point ...
the standards in china have been raised ... it's why disposable chopsticks are being made in the South and shipped to china now ...
Recession OVER!! I knew Obama could do it!
name one person who thinks china is the model society!?? ...
secondly, it's not just the accidents ... it's the conditions these people work in in general ...
i get it tho - you don't give a rat's ass about it ... which is fine ... would appreciate if you didn't mock people who did ... but maybe that's just too much to ask from you ...
Obama.
Thought you wanted debate.
Sorry.
Didn't know this was just a sympathy thread for Chinese workers.
Damn man, I already told you I was trying to type more and my computer messed up and somehow it posted only my first line. But let's keep on arguing about stupid shit.
And if standards have been raised...what's the problem then? I mean, sure, they've been raised, but look at what the baseline was...pretty horrific. hardly on par now.
Are you simply interested in the "greenest" or the one that is environmentally aware as well as has a safe work environment? Not always the same thing by any means. And that is because, companies are starting to be able to market "green"...ie. make $ off it it. BUt you can't really do that with worker safety.
You know it's funny, cause I agree with you that there are some really bad places out there (and right here). I just don't think you can say no one cares.
then why argue your comment wasn't trolling when that is the one i responded to? ... and then try to say mine was a trolling comment ...
and i didn't say no one cares ... i asked does anyone care ... big difference ...
and green/environmentally friendly includes social justice as well .. a product is not green if it's made in a sweatshop ... having said that - for sure there is a huge problem with greenwashing and everyone has to be wary of that ... but that's where the research comes into play ...
i didn't know obama was on the AMT ... and even so, i'm pretty sure he doesn't think China is utopia ...
Nope. And neither do most (90%) American consumers. Pathetic.
If you continue to hijack my threads, I will walk into your bar, beat the crap out of Cliff and Woody, and then have Norm sit on you.
Holy shit, are you having a bad day or something?
I was saying that if you think my comment was trolling then your comment would fit that definition as well.
God I am so fucking sick of some of the people around here only focusing on "trolling" this and "troll" that. Give it up. You are no victim.
dude ... reread the thread ... you first say my comment was trolling ... then you say it isn't but it's ridiculous ... when all i asked was "are there any manufacturers that care?" ... a legit question if there ever was one ... so, excuse me if i'm gonna defend my comment when you call it a trolling one or a ridiculous one ...
