Bleacher Report is really reaching. They're trying to turn the Seattle loss into a "Pete Carroll screwed up icing the kicker" type thing and blaming it on him. From the best I could tell the whistle came well before the snap, and it wasn't anything approaching a real attempt. Half the people on the field just stood up and looked, and the kicker just went ahead and kicked it to assess the wind conditions or whatever. Had there been no whistle it wouldn't have been the same outcome. He still might have missed it, or he could have made it, but it would have been a different attempt. It's funny they're pointing to that broken play and saying Seattle would have won.

The only funny thing was watching Pete pretend he didn't call that timeout.

I think they blew that opportunity at the end with 6 seconds left.

They really acted like they had no real shot.

Could've thrown it deeper and got out of bounds with 1 second left and kick a 50 yarder.

There's still breeze/draft/air movement conditions inside a dome. With 70 thousand plus people in a 1.6 million square foot facility with climate control, etc. The air is not still. It's not the same as playing outdoors, but kickers still assess those sorts of things, among others.

You're right, my bad. No air moves at all through a domed building. Kickers only need to be able to see in a straight line and it's 100% golden all the time. Air doesn't come in off the concourse, people don't breathe, etc.

I think this comes down to you having a hate boner for Carroll. Which is fine, because I don't care for him, but you don't have to be a smartass to me. As a Packers fan I really disliked him after the Fail Mary game, and even more so when he tried to pretend he didn't call the timeout. All I'm saying is that the article is a pretty big reach. I'm not defending him. There's many other reasons (even Carroll related ones) they lost.

How long have u been watching football?

U can't get any more ideal conditions than a dome, it's 68 degrees and this isn't old giants stadium

Not trying to be smartass, your statement is pretty shocking, a dome is great for kickers and qb's

    Ask Peyton

What's he 0-4, o-5 in cold weather games??

Sorry for being what u perceive as a dick, but sometimes you gotta lay down the hammer... U made it easy

Not trying to be a smartass? You latched onto one little part of my post and acted like a royal douche about it and questioned whether or not I know anything about football.

I didn't say conditions weren't ideal in a dome. I'm just saying they aren't stagnant either. The conditions might seem negligible to you and I, but not to kickers who stress over the small things.

I don't know if he was assessing that or not. Like I said in the original post "wind conditions or whatever", the point being that on a free kick he still kicked it as a practice/sizing up attempt.

I've never been inside the Georgia Dome, but I've been inside domes for games. I know they're not all the same, but my comment wasn't meant to be dissected by somebody with too much time on their hands and the self-appointed job title of "person who has to lay the hammer down on a Pearl Jam message board". It was a general remark about how the kicker continued the play for his own benefit in spite of the whistle, and THAT is why Seattle wouldn't have won the game if Carroll hadn't called the timeout.

How long have I been watching football? I don't know, I'm 32 so probably around 28 years or so, played for 4. Not that it matters.

By the way, there have been complaints about "windy" domes in the past. The main one I can remember is by Tyrone Willingham, but I think his was just being stupid. Or at least that's what most people took from it. Because the dome he said was windy was one of those pressurized ones. Not sure if the Georgia Dome is pressurized, because once again, I wasn't trying to get that technical or have a meteorological debate, I was just commenting on a silly story.
