Not heard much, other than How To Make Gravy and Laughing Boy (on the Weddings Parties Anything live album)... is there a good compilation or is Youtube the best bet?
The secret to a happy ending is knowing when to roll the credits
ive been liking paul kelly ever since he wanted to be like billy baxter.
from st kilda to kings cross has a particular resonance with me cause its ajourney ive undertaken so many times but in reverse. in fact ill be doing it again in less than 2 weeks. the end lines... ill give you all of that sydney habour all that land all that water for that one sweet promenade is once again a reverse sentiment for me.. cause as much as i love melbourne, walking the pier at st kilda and seeing the espy sitting there like a forgotten wedding cake nothing and i mean nothing for me compares with seeing the sun ripple on sydney harbour... so i will take that harbour paul, with all its water and all that land.
hear my name
take a good look
this could be the day
hold my hand
lie beside me
i just need to say
To Her Door... song I always go back to. Although recently realized the story hasn't got an ending
I don't mean to offend anyone, a lot of what I say should be taken with a grain of salt... that said for most of you I'm a stranger on a computer on the other side of the world, don't give me that sort of power!
Love Paul Kelly! Have just finished reading his memoir ('How to Make Gravy) sandwiched between PJ20 and 'Footprints' the story of Powderfinger... all great reads.
His Myspace page has audio for everything in his back catalogue of work (I think?)
My faves are 'Deeper Water', 'St Kilda to King's Cross', 'Pouring Petrol on a Burning Man', 'Sweet Guy', 'Dumb Things', 'How To Make Gravy', 'Look So Fine, Feel So Low', 'Every F*n City', 'Everything's Turning to White'... so many.
"And I get all your good advice. Never stops me from going through these things twice. I see the knives out, I turn my back. I hear the train coming I stay right on that track... I've melted wax to fix my wings...I've done all the dumb things".
"I went to town with a moody man, a handsome Dr Jekyll. He was right by my side turning into Mr Hyde. I ran for cover but I ran too slow, I was stitched by strangers. And they shook their heads that someone could do the things you did... what makes such a sweet guy turn so mean?!"
I don't know that much of his stuff, but I love 'From Little Things, Big Things Grow,' that he did with Kevin Carmody (sp?). He's playing a tiny (150 capacity max) club here in Bristol, UK called the Louisiana in Bristol next month but I was too slow and it's now sold out.

Bradman, How to make the Gravy, Look so fine, feel so low, From St Kilda to Kings Cross, When I first me your Ma, God told me to, How to make gravy, Deeper Water are all favourites - but the list could include lots more. He just doesn't write bad music

Oh is wasn't comparing voice quality, more lyrical quality and influence.
