Looking through the sets and fanviews of leg 2 of Ed's solo tour, I gotta say I can't believe Long Nights was not played.

Easily one of my favorites from Into The Wild. Maybe it wouldn't transfer well to a live setting? Any thoughts on the absence of this song from the sets?

  • Alright then! Thanks for the input!
  • Uh, so...

why do you guys think Ed didn't play Long Nights?
  • I love that song too and was pretty surprised when I didn't see it on the setlists...I think he didn't play it because I wanted to hear it.
    hippiemom = goodness
  • My guess is... NOBODY KNOWS. But I would have loved to hear it. It's definitely one of my favorites, lyric-wise especially.

was REALLY looking forward to hearing Long Nights at either of the Vancouver shows on the eV April Fools tour, and when Ed didn't play it all tour it was clear we wouldn't get to hear it at either of the Toronto shows and/or on the eV East coast tour.

Long Nights, along with End of the Road (another ITW track we were REALLY hoping to hear), are 2 outstanding tracks which, if i had to guess, eV didn't want to play solo as the other instruments along with the guitar really comprise the guts of each track. no doubt eV thought it would be best to get Liam involved on Society as opposed to having him play bass on Long Nights.

i find Long Nights to be so beautiful and haunting...I really wanted to hear it live. I can't think of a really good reason why it wasn't played though.

It sounds hard as fuck to sing while playing that fingerpicking part, so maybe that's why?
I am lost, I'm no guide. But I'm by your side...

  • I was asking that same question. Maybe it doesn't translate well live...because of the driving deep bass and the intricate picking.

I think maybe also it needs keys as well.

This is one of the songs I really wanted to hear, and I was kind of disappointed. But maybe it just involved too many other instruments, and he felt that it wouldn't sound the same just on acoustic. I don't know.

I agree w/ you all and it is one of my favs....who knows...I'll bet Ed worked on it, but while he's a better guitarist than I ever realized, I'll bet the fingerpicking and the lyric/tone changes make it tough.
  • Yeah, it probably just didn't sound right. Still would have been nice to hear it attempted with Liam atleast once.

I was more bummed about End of the Road getting the snub. My favorite on ITW. But it would have required full band and it isn't really an encore song so i wasn't surprised.
“I know this song so well, I can smoke a cigarette, have a drink, brush my teeth, take a shit, and mow the lawn while singing it. But I'll only be doing a couple of those things during this version.”
  • the guitar is slightly faster than the vocals.
I think that would fuck ed up a bit causing the song not to be as he would want to.
