you guys,show that?

For over a decade, we have spent millions of hours building the largest encyclopedia in human history. Right now, the U.S. Congress is considering legislation that could fatally damage the free and open Internet. For 24 hours, to raise awareness, we are blacking out Wikipedia.
"...Dimitri...He talks to me...'.."The Ghost of Greece..".

SOPA and PIPA are not good acts. I'm glad they are doing this. I hope everyone will take the time to learn about them and hopefully come to the same conclusion that they need to be stopped. Wiki is making it very easy to contact your representatives. If you are in the US just put in yoru zip code and contact them.

Google has their logo blacked out today for the same reason.

If you watch myth busters here is Adam Savages layman's terms explanation of why it is not good. He also offerers some great links to others opinions on it.

Well that's interesting!! I'm good up in Ontario, the site isn't blacked out.
The thing I like most about time is that it's not real. It's all in the head. Sure, it's a useful trick to use if you want to meet someone at a specific place in the universe and have tea or coffee- but that's all it is- a trick. There is no such thing as the past. It exists only in the memory. There is no such thing as the future. It exists only in our imagination. If our watches were truly accurate, the only thing they would ever say is "Now". That's what time it is. It's "Now". - Damien Echols

Yeah but I find its a great 'start off' point into getting the background, details and further reading of a topic all in one page.

When it comes down to it, essentially sites like this one would be impacted by SOPA and PIPA. I could easily see this place shut down without due process under the SOPA/PIPA guidelines.

It's bad for everyone, even the people that think it will protect them. They just don't see it yet.

Not to mention, our elected officials that don't even understand how the internet functions are voting yes because they are bought and paid for....

I won't believe Wikipedia is shut down until Wikipedia tells me so!

This will impact those not in the US as well, if the domain is a US TLD, such as .com, .net, or .org. If you seriously stand behind us, please consider petitioning the US State Department here: http://americancensorship.org/#petition ... department

yea... but if either of these bills pass, Craigslist probably won't be in a good operating position. These blackouts are designed to raise awareness. And I applaud them for sticking to it.

didn't they just pass legislation so that anybody can have any domain they want? (they don't have to have .com, .org, .edu )

I noticed that as well. It appears that they didn't disable their mobile plugin. I blacked out my forum last night and the same thing happened, it still worked on the Tapatalk app so I had to go back in and disable that plugin.

Nope. There are a set number of TLDs (Top Level Domains), and that is it. TLDs are listed here: http://data.iana.org/TLD/tlds-alpha-by-domain.txt

wikipedia blows my mind...yesterday, I was reading about a band I had never heard of....that led me links for other bands the members had previously been part of...that led me to discover another "new" band....that led me to purchase some new music.

it's rabbit hole...one page takes you to the next, then the next, then the next, etc. maybe one of you IT nerds can explain to me how wikipedia knows everything about everything. I know it's a community based thing but there must be some software that scours the internet for info.

anyway, I love it! anytime they ask for 3 bucks, I gladly support them.
