  • Thanks for the link. If you can, on WGBH out of Boston, the Boston PBS radio station, listen to Eric in the Evening, beginning at 8:00 p.m. Eric in the Evening is an 8:00 p.m. to midnight jazz program. Every year on the MLK holiday, Eric plays excerpts of MLK speeches followed by jazz music. Rare MLK speeches get airtime and the music is particularly moving. Pretty cool and it rally makes you think.

    Thanks again for the post.

    Peace.

You don't have a TV? You non-American socialist! How do you watch celebrities dance? How do you keep up with the ever important guido-monkeys on the beach in New Jersey. Shame on you.

I'm on my way to no TV. I have 5-channel cable, which only costs me 6 bucks a month. The unfortunate thing is that I can't choose which channels I want. I have PBS, which is great (NOVA, Frontline, real news programs), but having basic cable means I am stuck with CBS, NBC, FOX, and, ABC. The shows/news on those stations sucks---Mainstream garbage.....
  • funny to see how everyone on this site will only be nice and compliment MLK while denouncing Christiianity all together!! How can you be for a man of Faith like MLK and denounce Christianity at the same time? I always see this hypocrisy!!! And if this offends you, then you must feel convicted! LOL

I say, if you got the balls to denounce Christianity, you better have the balls to denounce MLK too!

Um, no. I can believe in what he did without sharing his religious beliefs.

And why do you think that because I don't believe in god I have no principles?

MLK is rolling in his grave now ... his legacy has been pissed on ... MLK spoke against racism and the military industrial complex ... both still alive and well in the US ... indeed, he was a great man but he's just a symbol with no meaning these days ...

The legacy of our grandfathers who fought in WWII is also being pissed on. They fought against tyranny and facism, and today we have a corporate oligarchy in power that uses our politicians like marionettes.

Racism still exists, certainly. But I do believe it is far better than it was in MLK's day. So I bet he'd be discouraged by the lack of more progress, but still encouraged at progress.

As for the military industrial complex, that is probably a different story.

How can you be a symbol with no meaning exactly?

While watching Gangs of New York last night I chuckled at the response given by Amsterdamn to a priest telling him when and where mass will be held over the weekend. i thought the pun was comical. Apologies.

i think the problem of racism is worse than you think ... we had 3 presidential nominees say that airport security should racially profile all muslims without a hint of backlash ... i also think that people are not interested in facing up to the reality of how bad it is for the same reasons why no one really wants to talk about the wars for what they really are ... most say yeah, the war is bad and leave it at that ... but the US is occupying two countries now for greed ... no one wants to talk about it ...

MLK represented the spirit of activism against inequality and tyranny ... you can't honour that while continuing to do the things he opposed ...

If you are trying to catch a serial killer, do you just go around randomly knocking on people's doors are do you profile for suspects based and facts and evidence from previous cases?

I'm a fit, single WMA and when I fly, I usually buy a one-way ticket and fly out of a different airport on the return flight. I should be pulled out of line every time I fly or at least be looked at more suspiciously. But a little old lady and I both stand the same chance of getting an extra pat-down. That doesn't make sense.

The candidates should not have specified Muslim. They should have specified that we should take all prior security threats and develop a profile based on facts and evidence. And then we should profile based on those facts and evidence. To say we won't do that because someones feeling are hurt that the arrow ending up pointing towards them is lunacy.

And I don't know where that arrow will end up pointing, but we should find out fast.

To get back on topic, I hope that MLK would be happy with how far our nation has come. I remember reading Coming of Age in Mississippi and being flabbergasted that those event had happened just 30 years ago. It just didn't seem possible.

catching a serial killer is one thing ... general screening at the airport is another ...

targeting based on religion is wrong on so many fronts ... 1. will they make it mandatory to disclose your religion? 2. without disclosure - how are they going to identify muslims at the airport? especially with the level of ignorance that exists 3. based on what statistics are you gonna use?

plus, you described like multiple traits ... these candidates were talking about just faith ... sad ...

It is bad to focus just on faith without having anything to back it up. But faith is not a race.

I'm suggesting that every event that was a near miss or failure of airport security should be put in a database. And not just the big events, I'm talking about everything. They will be able to put together trends. But to say we can't use certain features in a database because of hurt feelings will make trends obsolete.

Figure out those trends, see where the arrows are pointing, and then focus your primary attention to those arrows while still randomly screening.

No, they were creating a profile based only on headline events. Much more information needs to be analyzed.

    Not helpful, Jose...and it's spamming.

fear4freedom, you're going to need to back it down a notch or two/three. Name-calling is a huge no-no here. If you wish to discuss MLK without commenting on other people here, you can do that...it's the topic of this thread. Making personal comments about others is not ok. See my post from earlier today.

actually no there is no need to love jesus christ because of my great respect of MLK. they are 2 different things. i wouldve gladly and without reservation stood shoulder to shoulder with dr king on his long walks and as a supporter of civil rights.. but i would not have sat in church with him... and he would have respected that. this does not make me a hypocrite. it means that although MLK and myself have come to the same conclusions in regards to civil rights and the respecting of all human life, we arrived there via different paths. it is the actions of MLK, not his faith i admire. im not sure you fully understand the definition of hypocrite.
