New Day Rising & Zen Arcade, what great albums.
I haven't listened to them in a long time, playing their albums now.

Just about my husband's favorite band.
Got to see a great tribute to Bob Mould at Walt Disney Concert Hall - with Dave Grohl ad Ryan Adams among others - in November. The man himself came out for 6 or 7 songs at the end. He stood there at the end of the evening soaking up the standing ovation he received - you could really see that he appreciated it. He said it was ironic that if he hadn't had such a difficult time growing up and in his younger days that he never would have made it there.

Was a bit disappointing but not surprising that Grant Hart wasn't there. No Greg Norton either..

    Yes!!
    New Day Rising is fantastic!
Add them to my list of bands that I regret never seeing perform live.
I did see Bob Mould perform a few years ago in NYC. Great night.

Recently have gotten into Husker Du and what an awesome band!! Bob Mould is amazing. Still in the process of familiarizing myself with the music but I've liked so much of what I've heard! Fantastic stuff.

the living end might be my favorite live album ever, certainly top 5. you really can hear bob and grant competing, trying to outdo each other song after song, and succeeding.
  • Husker Du is perhaps the finest of the post-punk indie bands of the 1980s. To the poster who singled out The Living End: I concur, that live document was my first exposure to the sonic beauty of Husker Du. Bob Mould's vocal growl and crazy high-end guitar tone. Grant Hart's glorious harmonies. No three-piece punk band should sound this good.

Bigger picture: SST Records had perhaps the finest four-year run of any label ever from 1984-87. Husker Du released Zen Arcade, New Day Rising and Flip Your Wig. The Minutemen put out Double Nickels on the Dime. The Meat Puppets contributed Meat Puppets II and Up on the Sun. Dinosaur Jr dazzled with You're Living All Over Me. I recommend all seven albums if you're a fan of driving, guitar-based rock and thoughtful lyrics. Of course, those are the reasons we all love Pearl Jam, too.
