  • His defense of "my dog likes fresh air" shows just what a soulless person he is.

I can't imagine what kind of monster would do that.

And his story that the container was "air tight" is first of all bullshit (the dog would suffocate on the 12-hour trip) but clearly not true... if no air can get in... how did the doggie diarrhea get out?

Obviously not an animal lover. He probably uses the dog as a prop.

i would argue that riding around with a dog on your car in the united states isn't custom. where as being introdced to dog meat by your step father while living in indonesia is custom . i don't really see the comparison.

Absolutely. It has to be viewed within the cultural context. As appalling as the idea of eating dogs is to me, as long as Obama isn't stealing puppies from his neighbors and roasting them up on the grill now, I don't think it compares.

From what I understand its actually not custom in Indonesia among Muslims who consider dog meat along with pork as unclean.

But it is within the cultural norm to eat dog in Indonesia. It's not customary among Catholics to eat meat on Fridays during lent, while it is customary among the larger American culture. I was raised Catholic, but have eaten meat on Fridays during lent and on Good Friday no less  No one looked at me sideways.

Isn't Indonesia like 90% Muslim, if so you would think this would be outside the cultural norm.

Not from what I've read. It's common to eat it within several of Indonesia's non-muslim communities, as it is common to eat meat on Fridays in the US if you are not Catholic. Even as a Catholic, you could eat meat on good Friday in the US and that would be an accepted practice by the rest of the culture. You have to consider the entire cultural landscape of the country.

Speaking of culture and dogs, I was surprised to read about a significant number of puppy mills being run by Amish. Apparently Amish, or at least the Amish who run puppy mills, view dogs similar to other livestock.

What about letting a dog ride in the back of a pickup truck? That truly isn't safe whatsoever but I witnessed it all the time growing up. It's more rare to see today, but people still do it.

I hate when I see that! Now animals in NJ have to be seat belted in. Seemed silly at first, but seems to make sense for their safety.

i would think that most people aren't driving down highways on road trips in in excess of 100 miles with dogs in the bed of the truck. i am ok with dogs in the back of pick-up trucks. i think there is a difference in the two.

There is a huge difference ... in one scenario a dog can be ejected or jump freely from a moving vehicle and in the other they cannot.
    :fp:

This is a silly call-to-arms. Pet safety and welfare has grown leaps and bounds in 30 years as evidenced by New Jersey's pet seatbelt rule (which I find very odd).

Question: If Romney was driving a pickup truck on that vacation and had the dog in the bed inside a pet carrier that was secured to the truck ... what would be your opinion?

George Washington: slave owner, whiskey distiler..,all around party animal and got more ass than a public toilet seat.
Obama:big ass liar and a closet terrorest...well my opinion anyway :D
Hillary Clinton: I love this gal ! 2 terms as president and never recieved one single vote

jason p ... has it really come down to this!? ... you are on a message board defending a guy who strapped a pet in a carrier on the roof of his car for a long distance trip ... everyone knows that the back of a pick up isn't the same as the roof ... if a pebble flies off the road - it won't hit anything in the back of a pick up ... but it will hit something on the roof ... it's why we drive with windshields ...

forget about that for now tho ... what this shows is this guy is a moron ... i understand the partisanship that goes on around here ... but really!?? ... you're gonna waste your time defending this person for this act!?? ... c'mon now ...
