Yeah, even if I lived in the loop and took the train to work, I would go nuts without a car.

I used to live in Edgewater several years ago and would always walk to the grocery store (about 10 blocks away) because I didn't want to lose my parking spot (that area is the worst if you park on the street). Lugging all my groceries was such a PIA! So glad Logan Square has better parking and more grocery stores nearby.

That is an INSANE price jump! :shock: Is this a renting company you had your place with? I've found most non-business, "family-owned" apartment buildings don't raise the rent a whole lot. I've been in my current building for more than four years and have only had my rent raised twice -- once by $25 and the landlord only did it because of taxes, so he said; and the other by $50 when I moved upstairs to a nicer unit. Living in the Little Italy/UIC area was the same way -- hardly any price jumps from one year to the next.

well i go to the jewel on state street and that is walking distance to my apartment. i go about once a week, week and a half and am able to carry 5 or 6 bag back with me.

food shopping hasn't been an issue. there is a walgreens across the street from my place, and i get all the heavier stuff there (soda, bottled water, milk etc) so i don't have to lug that crap far at all.

yeah, my building is owned by some corporation. they are actually trying to convert some units into "temporary" housing like a hotel for business people who are in the city for a couple months at a time.

MUCH different than renting from a husband/wife trying to pay off a mortgage. you can negotiate so easily with those type of landlords. these companies that own these big buildings... not so much. they could care less.

i'm so anal about food shopping...get all the dry goods, then the frozen and refridgerated stuff...check out and make a bee line home to get it in the fridge asap. i'd go nuts if i had to carry it in the hot summer.

These solo shows are great. I still might not be going anywhere depending on when baby is born. Due date is the 26th. The show could be my out though.

One piece of advice for anyone who does go to the Tweedy show(s): DO NOT SIT (yes, they set up seats for these shows) directly in front of the bars on the main floor. If that's the only seating available, go upstairs because the hand dryers in the washrooms are INSANELY FUCKING LOUD.

We got there fairly close to show time last year and grabbed a spot in the next-to-last row on the right side and there were parts of the show where all we could hear were those dryers. It was like they were right there next to us, even though they're down a flight of stairs.

Really??? Facing the stage on the right? I was in the last row as well and didnt hear them. I didnt like the seating setup though. Hopefully they wont do it like that this year. I have been to other tweedy shows at vic and it was just your normal standing arrangment.
