there were 4 tracks "leftover" from death magnetic. they are just as good, if not better. the running time is 29 minutes. you can find them on itunes & various other sites amongst the web.
    1.hate train
    2.just a bullet away
    3.hell and back
    4.rebel of babylon
i'm also in the metclub, so they sent them to me free 1 each night of their 30th anniversary shows in san fran at the fillmore. as i've said before, these are KILLER!!! they could've easily fit in with the death magnetic tracks, but that would've made it a double record. they're claiming that these are"unpolished demos", but it was EASILY my favorite studio release of last year. i've been listening to these for close to a month now & am not tired of them. i'm glad that they're getting a "proper" release. hope that there's gonna be vinyl as well!!!

Those anniversary shows recandled my love for Metallica, now I'm looking forward to this EP :)

29 minutes, it's as long as Backspacer w/ 4 tunes

Seriously though, I haven't listened to these guys since Re-Loaded. Heard a few tunes off of Death Magnetic and should really go buy it.

The EP, is it going to be on disc or just released as downloads?

Death Magnetic was definitely a return to old Metallica prior to their video phase. I think a lot of people left them when they did the Black Album and Load Re-Load thing. I gave them a lot of shit as well but they've always kicked ass live and seem to be back to old school stuff. This will probably be a really good EP; the more unpolished the better with these guys.

No it wasn't. A return to a heavier sound, but it's totally different from their early albums.

Well, it wasn't as good as Master or Ride the Lightning but they seemed to have tried to go back to basics more so than the MTV albums. I liked it but Master and Lightning will always be my favorites.

they were sent to fanclub members for free, released to itunes, then due to the overwhelming response (30,000-"sales figures are low these days...") they've decided to go "old school" & give them a "physical" release. there's also some free sites that are hosting them & a couple of cheaper places like mp3va.com. i got them free, but will gladly buy the cd & vinyl(PLEASE!!!) . these songs are DA SHIT! as was death magnetic. livemetallica.com is also another cool site. all shows since 2004 & a bunch of freebies from 86-03.
    METAL UP YOUR ASS!!!

I picked it up today for $5.99 (not too bad for an EP) but haven't listened to it yet.

I downloaded this a week ago and was not all that impressed. Just a Bullet Away is really the only decent song. I can see why the rest were left off the album. Nothing else really stands out.

IMO, they are way over rated. Nothing like the old days and dare I say, sell outs.

Listened to it today. Not too bad. Liked the first two songs, Hate Train and Just A Bullet Away. Third song didn't care for at all and the last song was ok.

I'm finally listening to it right now. So far it's pretty good. I really liked Hate Train and Just a Bullet Away isn't bad either.

Just finished the EP. Overall it wasn't bad, not as good as the tracks which made Death Magnetic, but it does have some relistenability qualities. After a first listen, I'd probably go with Hate Train as my favourite, but Rebel of Babylon was also somewhat of a standout to me. I'll give it a couple more spins before giving it a full judgement.
