Any other fans of this great band on this board?

It's a shame they didn't stick around longer than what they did. They had such a unique sound and every album they released was a masterpiece in my opinion (minus Fillet Show actually).

    I fucking LOVE Hum!!

I saw them open for Smashing Pumpkins waaaayyyyy back - they blew Corgan and those twits away!

I'm hunting down a tribute album Called Songs of Farewell and Departure.

Even better news...Hum did a couple reunion shows in Illinois late last year. I really hope they consider getting back into it. Such an amazing sound!

  • Finally somebody else!

They are one of the few bands left on my list to see live, and it REALLY want to see them. They've actually done a good amount of reunion shows over the last 10 years or so, just a couple shows each summer at the most though and usually always near their hometown. My friend and I vowed that if they do a show in 2012 that we are going for sure.

I loved this band too! Saw them many years ago when they played at UofI in Champaign. Stars is a great song!

I love Hum. "Stars" is the only song that ever got any radio play around here, and I didn't really care for it, but when I got into them I didn't even realize it was the same band. A buddy brought along Downward Is Heavenward on a road trip back in the late 90's and we listened to it probably 10 times. I bought my own copy and listened to it a lot more, it's one of those albums that's good from start to finish, so it's perfect to have on in the car as there's no need for skipping around.

It wasn't until I decided to check out their other albums that I realized it was the band that played "Stars". I like their other albums, but Downward Is Heavenward is the best to me. I don't have Fillet Show, but have the other 3. I probably didn't listen to them for about 10 years, but a few years ago rediscovered them (I had played them so much that I took a small break that turned into a decade) and they still sound great.

Saw them twice in the '90s. First time was as the opening act for Bush at Vanderbilt University's basketball arena (I went to college in Kentucky, about 50 miles from Nashville) in support of You'd Prefer an Astronaut, and my friends and I were sold immediately.

We passed on a chance to drive to Nashville again mid-week for a club show later that school year (one of our biggest regrets as live-music fans), but I did get to see them at a club in Louisville (the late, lamented Brewery Thunderdome) in 1998 on the Downward is Heavenward tour.

It freaked me out to hear an instrumental snippet from "Stars" in a Cadillac commercial a couple years ago. When my college music is being used to sell luxury cars, I know I've gotten old.

Downward is my favorite as well. That album is so simple yet so damn complex, I guess that's the best way I can describe it. There is no reason to skip a single track on it, like you said.

"Stars" is what sold me on them as well, but sadly I was only 14 at the time and my mom wouldn't let me go to any concerts at all while I lived at home so the timing was never there for me to see them live. I'm very jealous of you guys that got to see them.

Just watched the "Stars" video....great song.

I never realized how "Lo-Fi" they sounded!
