Need help choosing lyrics for my high school yearbook!

nym5cbnym5cb Posts: 72
Hey guys! So I just joined the Ten Club and this is my first post so I was wondering if my fellow PJ fans could give me a hand. So this June I'll be graduating from my high school as the fifth-ranked student in my class, and because of that, I need to come up with a one to two sentence quote to put in my yearbook as my "message" so to speak. I wouldn't choose anyone else but Eddie and PJ, and I've been trying really hard to come up with something but I just can't seem to come up with something that really resonates. I mean, I have a million different phrases that I LOVE of course, but nothing that really feels appropriate for the occasion, know what I mean? So if you guys have any ideas at all, I'd really appreciate it! Just something that maybe looks to the future or even the good, beneficial years past, and how important they were to whoever was saying them. Thanks a lot! :D

    I've always liked these lyrics:

'I know I was born and I know that I'll die
The in between is mine. I am mine.'
I'll ride the wave where it takes me

    09/03 and 09/04/2011 PJ20 - Alpine Valley

11/13 and 11/16/2012 - EV - Houston, TX and Dallas, TX
07/29/2013 - PJ - Wrigley Field, Chicago, IL

    11/15/2013 - PJ - Dallas, TX

  • you gotta go with:

I completely agree with you, I Am Mine would be awesome. I actually play baseball for my school's team, and one of my teammates from last year was somewhat of a PJ fan, and he knew the song and used it for himself because he was like number eight in the class when he graduated lol, so I wanted to come up with something of my own, but otherwise, this would 100% be my choice. Thanks a lot for the input though! :)

I literally just listened to Hard to Imagine from the Orpheum Theatre 1994 show, and I didn't even think of this! Definitely going to keep this in mind, this is great! Thanks!

  • Congratulations on your achievement nym!

I agree with all of the above. If your only looking for a short quote not the entire songs (which may not make it past the school board, parents etc) then you could consider these:

"Keep on rockin' in the free world"

    or

"I'm a seed wondering why it grows" from "Education"

Hope you find the PJ lyric that suits exactly what you want to say, that suits the context and doesn't cause you any hassles.
  • "So this is what its like to be an adult, if only he knew then what he knew now"

"and the young they can lose hope cause they can't see beyond today, the wisdom that the old can't give away"

"makes much more sense to live in the present tense"

"young men they pretend, old men comprehend"

I'v figured out numbers and what they're for"

    Congratulations
  • I thought of a couple others that seem ok

"no longer overwhelmed and it seems so simple now, its funny when things change so much its all a state of mind"

"all the rusted signs we ignore thoughout our lives, choosing the shiny ones instead"

"no need to be void, or save up on life, you got to spend it all"

"no matter how cold the winter theres a spring time ahead"

"seek my part, devote myself, my small self, like a book amonst the many on a shelf"

    Far Behind-
    Subtle voices in the wind,
    Hear the truth they're telling
A world begins where the road ends
Watch me leave it all behind

    Guaranteed
A mind full of questions and a teacher in my soul...and so it goes.

    Release
I'll ride the wave where it takes me.

    Gone
I will be what I could be...once I get out of this town.

    Congratulations on your upcoming graduation!

Thanks a lot everybody! These are all great ideas. I never realized how many choices I really have :) Release is one of my favorite songs, and I always use the phrase "Keep on rockin' in the free world," so those are two new ones to think about. Thanks again! :P

  • I will have to pick a few lines from Rise since that's the song I used in my hs graduation. :)

"such is the way of the world, you can never know
just where to put all your faith and how will it grow"

"gonna rise up, turning mistakes into gold"

"such is the passage of time, too fast to fold"

"gonna rise up, find my direction magnetically"

Thats too perfect! Go with that!

Keep on rockin' in the free world!

  • I think this suggestion was great, as it's very appropriate for your situation. The inbetween is yours and you chose to kick ass by graduating at the top of your class. Congratulations!

Thank you! I actually ended up going with "Knowledge is a tree, it's growing up just like me," from In My Tree, also seemed really appropriate, and a truly awesome song!
