Any fans of the big man here? I think his solo work has surpassed what he did with The Pixies now. Looking back through his entire body of work he has been pretty prolific and fairly consistent in quality since the initial disbanding of The Pixies. Where they were a band who peaked early and were always in decline Frank Black has matured and progressed along the way. I tried to make a playlist of my favourites to listen to at work and it became so long I ended up listening to him nearly all day. :)
Like a book among the many on a shelf...

Dublin 02 Arena - 22/6/10. Belfast Odyssey Arena - 23/6/10. London Hyde Park - 25/6/10. Berlin Wuhlheide - 30/6/10.
Manchester MEN - 20/06/12. Manchester MEN - 21/06/12

He's one of the most underrated musical geniuses of our time. Keeps surprising me at every turn he takes. I absolutely love what he has done with The Golem. F-ing brilliant...

I've been privileged to catch Frank Black open for Pearl Jam in 1998 in East Troy - and then again in 2010 when The Pixies came to Mesa, AZ and did Doolittle in its entirety.

Teenager of the Year has always been one of my all-time stand-bys. Nonstoperotik is pretty incredible, as well.

I know he's getting a lot of pressure to write new stuff with The Pixies... but I think he should stick with the solo stuff... It's all really brilliant.

I love the Pixies, but I've never really given his solo work a shot. Where's a good place to start?

I'd say Teenager of the Year (just for the song Headache alone) and then go from there...

If they hadn't just blocked grooveshark at work I'd be listening to that right now. Thanks.

  • one of the highlights of my life was to bag frank blacks groceries multiple times as well as see him shopping at my local grocery store. i was band security for him and his wife's new group, and was about 12 rows back and saw the pixies perform doolittle in its entirety. frank lives in my hometown.
