    my understanding is this demo was originally written to be a song on a muppets project. plans changed so it was scrapped. the band decided to turn the song in to an MMJ song after that

    Correct. The band was supposed to do some sort of Gorillaz-style concert where they were the band behind the curtain for a front-stage performance by the Electric Mayhem. The Disney exec in charge of Muppet affairs at the time wound up leaving the company, so the project was scrapped. My impression is that this "alternate universe take" is Yim trying to sound as much like Dr. Teeth as possible.
