Does anyone recommend any other books besides the PJ20 book that are about PJ? I saw the Five Against One book on Amazon. Any books that might have information not in the PJ20 book?

Thanks to all and Happy Holildays!

    Ryan Crooks insists upon himself
  • Five against One is probably the best Pearl Jam book i ever read.
It ends around the time of No Code but a good book non the less.

it was funny, if nothing else.
I recall a section in there with Ed sitting down with "Gramma Pearl" and eating the jam, or some bullshit.

I just re-read "Five Against One" and realize why Kim Neely chose that title. It's obviously Five (Eddie Vedder, Stone Gossard, Jeff Ament, Mike McCready and Kelly Curtis) against One (Dave Abbruzzese).

I didn't react this much when I read it the first time, many years ago, but now I got the feeling Dave and his gf sat next to Kim Neely when the book was written. Neely chose side and she failed to disguise it when writing the book.

Also the part about Eddie's parents could easily have been cut down by 75 pages or so. Too much non relevant info in a book that's supposed to be about a band.

I also just read Mark Yarm's book Everybody Loves Our Town which was really good. Without knowing more I get the feeling that Grunge Is Dead is quite smiliar...are they different enough so it's worth to read both?

Seven mins later: It doesn't matter...I just ordered it :-)

I just found one in my local bookstore called Pearl Jam FAQ.  It was co-written by a 10 club member.  It goes through each record and song by song and has a section about who they've covered and bands that have opened for them and they have opened for.  talks about some shows and seems a little slanted towards New York shows but all in all i thought it was good. For the hard core there isn't anything new in it though.

Everybody Loves Our Town was really informative and well-written. The multi-perspective style was very cool. Five Against One was a quick read -- I enjoy good gossip like the next dude -- but I felt guilty after reading it, like I was betraying the band I love.
