I sold some sports memorabilia and now want to finally get a quality electric guitar. My mind has been set on a Les Paul Gibson Studio Ebony and Gold. The Les Paul Standard is a bit out of my range(twice as much)..anything else I should check out before pulling the trigger before Christmas? $1100-$1200 is my limit. Thanks for any suggestions.

BTW I play alot of Pearl Jam, RHCP, Oasis, Neil Young, 90's rock style of songs if that helps..

you might be able to get yourself a nice used vintage guitar. maybe something from the 70s or 80s. they were made better back then and they have nitro finishes. i love vintage guitars. here is a link to a friends shop so you can price some of the vintage stuff. some of the stuff is outrageously expensive but you can get some cool stuff for that amount of money, or a couple of hundred more.

  • I'd go American Strat (or a Jazzmaster), or a Les Paul Special, but that's just because I've never gotten along with a Les Paul Standard!

Head for the used walls. Get a better guitar for less cash. Start crawling craigslist etc.

Things being the way they are there are some really good deals around for used guitars and you get a lot more for your money than buying new.

I personally think SG standards are great although I'm not a fan of silverburst.

It's going to be tough finding a used les paul standard or traditional in that price range but there should be plenty of studios.
  • for $1100 you can get a very nice used American Strat and still have some $$$ left over for pedals, strings, and/or cables.

I just don't see why you would buy a new guitar...kind of like a car, let someone else eat the depreciation and keep it for 20 years to start seeing a return on your investment when it becomes "vintage"
"Then the Spirit of God hovered over the water, and God said, Let there be music, and there was Pearl Jam."

Whose idea was it for the word "Lisp" to have an "S" in it?
