    He was something special!!
said to be that his guitar string were like telephone cable wires, he used some thick ass strings.I would give one sec to play like him.
Mike gets a lot out of his guitar playing, you can hear it in some of his riffs.
He gave it his all every time he stepped on stage no fake ass BS
nothing ever played the same way twice.
    There will never be another

Stevie Ray Vaughan on his infamous 1963 Fender Strat, which he called 'Number One' and 'First Wife':

"She don't talk back to me, she talk for me."

Number One survived the helicopter crash that took Stevie's life and is now in possession of his brother, Jimmie.

Stevie and his music have been a huge part of my growing up. My dad is a major fan. The guy was in a rut for nearly 2 weeks after Stevie's death, and had seen him in concert I think about 3 months before he died in the crash.

He was a guitar player who certainly had a lot of talent, but played with more soul and passion.

  • I am sure most know but gonna say again his last gig was at alpine his helicopter crashed into the ski hill behind the stage. Why the pilot took off with it being so foggy we will never know.
Thats why I Love the Ames poster from pj20 cause they got him right there in front.
What sux also is that he had gotten off drugs and had been clean for a year or two.
I've got a few friends that still have the ticket to the next show he was going to play at the Lubbock fair.
People tell me he never sounded better than he did at the time of his death.
whoever said he played with soul and emotion, so true!
    until next time......

Tell you what, DS, when you get that good on lead guitar I'll play rhythm (or at least be a roadie :D !).

I saw him that tour too. Joe Cocker opened.
But to just finish a blistering concert and have Mr Eric Clapton stand and just watch during? Well that says something right there. On top of that to benefit those struggling with drug/alcohol addiction( Erics Crossroads rehab center). hellavu way to go for an admitted sober alcoholic.

He taught this kid to play blues: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8cHQTcdPDTk

sat him up on the amps at his concerts when he was a wee tyke. KWS was 17 when his debut album came out. Amazing kid.

  • Best guitarist not named Jimi Hendrix IMO.
Believe me, when I was growin up, I thought the worst thing you could turn out to be was normal, So I say freaks in the most complementary way. Here's a song by a fellow freak - E.V

Agreed. And I tend to like SRV over Jimi (Sorry everyone).

And #1 never had a neck of the same year as the body...

Stevie Ray grew up about 35 miles from me in the Oak Cliff section of Dallas (he always described himself as being from Oak Cliff  ) and he was much loved locally. I was fortunate I got to see him in a fairly small venue.

A few years after he died, my husband worked with a woman who had a photo of herself with Stevie Ray on her desk. When he asked her about it, she said that Stevie Ray had been married to her older sister at one time. He used to sing Look at Little Sister to her. How cool is that!
