  • Great song but it's not really now and then is it. More like then and then :D

Can't wait for its live debut next year. A bit surprised they didn't do it with Jason during the Fillmore shows since he did co-write it.

I entitled the thread as "now and then" because the first video is dated around 2007 while the last one is dated back in 1992. Present (now) and past (then). You catch the idea?

First video isn't from 2007. It's from around 2000 since it was an interview for the making of the Black Album documentary that was filmed when Jason was still in the band. That's why its more then and then since the newest footage is almost 12 years old.

that was the day jason left the band, ironically. i know he used to play it during his solo spots before nothing else matters back in the day. his backing vocals are waaaayyy better than kirks, even though i like rob's bass style/energy better. i will always have a soft spot for the jay man, though. it sucks that he had to be sacrificed for them to get over a bunch of shit.

Completely agree. His backing vocals added a huge amount to a lot of tracks (Creeping Death in particular). And he still sounded awesome when he played at the Fillmore shows.

I have to say at least Kirk has reduced his backing vocals in recent years and leaves most of it to Rob (bar maybe some of the "shouty" stuff). I remember on the 03 tour he was particularly cringe-worthy (especially on Frantic).

yeah.. hearing kirk shout DIE!DIE!DIE! or my lifestyle determines my deathstyle was comical & cringeworthy. a big highlight of old met shows was when jason would do whiplash...he almost sounded better than james.

ALWAYS ALWAYS loved that song...didn't Jason help write that song I believe the only one he was allowed to on Justice.

To the best of my knowledge he only co-wrote 3 songs throughout his time with them: this, Blackened and Where the Wild Things Are. It's a shame he didn't get more of an input but I guess it really was the James and Lars show back then. But considering the whole output from them during that era, that isn't a bad thing either I guess.
  • I've been listening to the first two Fillmore shows non-stop. I'm really enjoying them a lot. Jason was definately a high-light of the performance for me and I remember everyone screaming his name during both songs each night I was there.
