Here, when you say: I listen to Pearl Jam, the answer is "Who? Sorry, never heard of them."

what i used to get was "i like ten & vs." now i get oh yeah, they're awesome! then i play a cover of one of their songs & the same person goes "did you write that?" me: no, it's a pj song. them: what album is it from? me:no code/ riot act/ vitalogy. them: confused look. it's funny, because i also get, i respect the hell out of them. so, they've still got indie cred all these years later. i also get "so, you're into classic rock" as well

    One of what???

I can definitely understand the "so you like classic rock" responses. Alot of the bands I listen to, whether they're new or old, definitely have a classic rock sorta sound compared to what most people consider modern rock be it stuff that's actually good like Radiohead or Tool or crummy bands like 3 Doors Down or Nipplesmack. If I tell somebody I like Pearl Jam, Black Crowes, Wilco, or MMJ and they responded that way, I'd say yes. Then again you have some pretty some kinda crappy old bands like Molly Hatchet or Peter Frampton that give "classic rock" a bad name.

"how can you see the same band 20 times? doesn't it get boring?" is my fav one. I only get that from people who don't know me nowadays, my friends and family are understanding enough. Some of them like some of "my" bands, and have gone to shows with me, but they're just not as passionate about it.

I also really liked "how can you line up 7 hours just to see a concert? I would just buy the dvd once they release one". yeaaah...right. totally the same thing.

I don't ever understand why people say that. "Why go when you can get front row seats on your TV?" uhhhhhhh.....How can I take a person seriously if they just asked that?

People who dont understand how you can see the same band live 5+, 10+ 20+ times are the same type of people who dont know what setlists are. "oh wow, like, bands can play different songs each show?"

I still tell people my favorite band, but I quickly say all of the other stuff I like... Which is a shitload of other music most people my age could listen to.

Anybody ever get snide comments/questions about band shirts? I've been a called out a few times where I may have deserved it, but when somebody asks me "What's that shirt about?" with some kinda smarmy expression, while they're wearing a football jersey(or whatever piece of sports garb) I feel like stabbing them in the face with a soldering iron.

Did we ever figure out what "one of those" is?

After telling my sisters of my summer plans (seeing 4 shows, 5 if berlin 2 is ever announced), the reactions were:

sister 1) Aren't you a bit too old to be a groupie?
sister 2) 4 times? isn't it just the same thing every night? Don't you have better things to spend your money on?
Still can't believe I met Mike Mccready at the Guggenheim and got a pic with him!!!!!

Wouldn't that be a more appropriate response for the typical Nickelback fan? :)
