Selective Service - Military Conscription

Should we continue to require that 18 year old men sign up for military conscription; should we make 18 year old women sign up as well; should we do away with military conscription?
What do you think?
If we make men do it, then women should do it as well.
Military conscription doesn't seem to be necessary at this time . . . considering how it wasn't used within the past 10 years.

Teach these kids some discipline. Too much spoiled whining from the little ingrates these days...
Are you putting them down? I have good friends in the military and I find this pretty offensive.
I don't think he meant that as offensive; just stating that kids at 18 years old can be impressionable. Quite young to be recruited into something with so much at stake.
If this was the case with no governmental exceptions....we would have far less people ready to beat the drums of war. Just a tad bit of military experience would change many minds on the concept that fighting these wars is good for America's business.

I hope so.
a volunteer soldier is what they want, not someone who is there against their own will. it is too bad for morale and it can jeopardize lives and even the mission.
that said, the only way to guarantee that there will never be another draft is to get rid of the law requiring kids to register.

I agree

...are those who've helped us.
Right 'round the corner could be bigger than ourselves.
Yes, i ment this, i have freinds and family that are career, but there sure not recommending it to anybody. two of my friends could have gotten out years ago but are afraid because of the job market, they figure at least it's a steady check and benefits.
Imagine they percentage of our military who has actually SHOT someone... .00001%? maybe.
Funny tho, on the Train, being in the military means "shooting people".
Doubt you'd shoot if they were on your own lawn, but whatever.
1) Private military contractors are replacing the bulk of U.S. soldiers. US soldiers are seeing their responsibilities becoming subordinate to these private contractors. You have only to look at Reflex Response who is now technically serving as a privately hired military of a country and no jurisdiction (the State Department, the UN, the ICC, or the Hague) or country has challenged this business venture.
Now that private military contractors can legally be placed on the streets of America without the request or support of any Governor, the need for a large National Guard is no longer necessary and large police departments can be reduced as contractors and unmanned drones will soon be the norm.
2) The cost of maintaining a large (federal pay employees) military. If some of you can remember Congress’s embarrassment when it allowed the federal government to shutdown forgetting that our military were designated federal pay employees. A reduced military is a reduction of the federal government.
It gives the States the ability to break the largest and strongest public worker union in America, law enforcement and replacement them with contractors, while meeting their budget needs.
The downfall in all this, is that eventually and probably too late, we’ll wake up to a political police state disguised as a democracy.
i don't know why they would rather pay contractors at a rate of up to 3 times what a soldier makes.

I did think the commercials that played in the game if you waited too long before starting the game were pretty neat.
On my lawn, I have a story I bring up about this... One time my family was having dinner, and we looked out the back yard and a young guy, 20ish years old had jumped over our fence. He was trespassing on our property... We opened the back door, kinda said 'what the hell are you doing?'.. He said some kids were chasing him with water guns on the way to a party, so he hopped a fence. Thank god I didn't shoot this invader!
Same with my friends. They are trying to pay for college without having a ton of student loans.
I have a ton of respect for the military, something I for one know I could never do.
