Cheaper to fly in Europe than train
In my desire to do anything but study for exams, i compared the costs of flying to taking the train in many places and found it to be much cheaper.
Here's a few examples:
June 25:
Southampton(isles of wight) to Amsterdam:
flight(1 1/2 hours): 72 USD
train (london to amsterdam): 146 USD
July 2:
Flight: Paris to berlin- (1 1/2 hours)- 64 USD
Train:Arras to Berlin- 252 USD
July 6:
Flight Berlin to Stockholm:69 USD
Train: 358 USD
I know you can get the rail pass, which might make things cheaper, but I just wanted to spread the info... Do with it what you will, enjoy.

Hell yea, i forgot to mention faster. It's just crazy to an American, ya know... I could take a flight from hartford to newark which is about a half hour and the price is 300 bucks. And hartford to montreal which is an hour flight... 700. I guess this is commonplace in europe to have such cheap air travel, but I don't know how many Americans would know that...
Not many I'm sure. Trains are an experience though.
trains are rather expansive comparatively, unless you manage to get a special/group offer, but those are often confined to certain areas, companies or slower national trains.
though I have to say, the flight we got from nyc-seattle was pretty cheap too, $189 which is not bad at all considering the distance and the flight duration.
Interesting... thanks for the info. I am waiting to see what happens with the rest of the rumors before booking my tickets... :?
i would think the slower the transportation method, the cheaper it should be. nope
flights are cheaper and faster

Flights can be offered for a lower price because more people use them. The airlines can still make good money.
