My God - I think PJ fans have gone bizarro

I find it insane the amount of entitlement people have.

Not only here, but in life, within our world right now. Everything is me me me. (not to mention a general dumbing down of our society and generation. But thats a whole other story)

It seems to get worse year after year, and I think a lot of that has to do with our technology and social media and having everything at our finger tips, texting, tweeting, facebooking, whatever-ing. On all our fun gadgety things.

Nothing against technology, as there is so much to learn and educate yourselves about on these intrawebs, but for the most part, this online experience, well, I find that all of this stuff has empowered people to become bullies, whether knowingly or not. I find it hard to believe people, well the majority of people, would say some of the vile, rude, out of line comments if they were to be face to face with a person they are saying this to.

Anyways, back to entitlement.... we as fans are not entitled to anything.

We are not friends of the band.
We do not know them personally.
We are not in their daily lives.
We are not family.
What we are, are fans.

Just because you have bought an album or an item or a whatever does not mean they OWE you anything.

The exchange, presumably, would be that you paid for something that you like, and that you have received enjoyment from that item. That item being the art that they created and you are listening to, hanging on a wall, slinging onto your back, sticking into your dvd player. When you purchase a cd, an lp, or any item that you do, it is not like buying up stocks in a company in which if you happen to accumulate enough shares you can be on the board of directors and control what they do.

What you get out of the relationship is the art.
There may be a connection there.
The art may touch you deep down inside.
the art may seem like it was made just for you.
It may take you away.
It may give you relief.
It may inspire you,
heal you,
comfort you
elevate you
bring you pure joy and bliss
The list can go on...

For me personally-the abridged version-, I love the band, their ideals, and most importantly for me, their music. Its helped me through some rough times, its also been with me through joyous times, if you go through my life, it is a soundtrack to it. Eddie's voice and words carried me away when I went through chemo. Mike's solos and the bands musical interaction on albums and bootlegs took me to whole other universes. Ive purchased many things, but never once have i ever thought they owe me anything.

It doesnt mean because you feel a certain love/connection/whatever, that the artists that create it owe you anything more than what they've given you in the form of sharing their art. If anything, if any of the art has touched you, has affected you, has moved you, it is us that should be saying Thank You.

And yes, with something that you connect to so much, that you love so much, you want to get your hands on everything, so that you can devour it, savour it, enjoy it and let it take you wherever it takes you. But if you happen not to get it, whatever it is, you have to get on with life. You're seriously going to flip out because you didnt get a back pack? or a white vinyl? or tickets to a show? I hear people complaining about how expensive tickets are, or items are, and they struggle to make ends meet, yet, complain that they got shut out of something. Or they took the day off work? or they put aside family obligations to try and get tickets. Seriously? Stuff like that almost approaches stalker levels. And if you are skipping out on a family thing, you have only yourselves to blame for missing it. you have a choice. The band is not holding a gun to your head saying, 'you must skip work to get the tickets'. 'are you sure you want to go to little jimmy's school recital instead of staying on your computer to try and get tickets?'

In a world where the have nots far outnumber the haves, and is growing on a daily basis, this is what gets you bent out of shape? That propel you to hurl insults and calls for heads on stakes?

a concert?

a dvd?

a backpack?

I understand its frustrating at times. Ive been there. Im also a lucky Canadian where shipping to us seems like the package has circled the world...on a boat...18 times, before finally arriving in our mailboxes. Ive had my ticket orders crash for the Canadian tour. It's disappointing yeah... but its not the end of the world. I would never think to yell, or to insult, to degrade the ten club or the band. Its not like they are sitting there thinking of ways to mess with us, while twirling their moustaches snickering, ya know? Or thinking up new ways to rip us off. They've ALWAYS done their best to provide us with info, and the best situations possible to bring us, the fans, enjoyment. But no matter what they do, it seems like, to a good number of consistent posters on here, it is never enough - you always want more more more. For example, no matter how much you complain...They are not going to schedule a tour around the fans life. Can you imagine Kelly Curtis calling up 10C members asking ' so umm, we're thinking of hitting Ottawa in July, do you think you'll be around then? Is that a good month for you? yeah? ok good, now, here's what i was thinking about ticket sale date, March 1st good? no, ok how about february? excellent! thank you very much 10C member sam! see you in july'

Keep things in perspective. There are a lot worse situations to be in.

peace,
sam

I'm starting to find it insane the amount of threads being started about this. Does everybody need a "bitch about the fans who bitch" thread?
"See a broad to get dat booty yak 'em, leg 'er down, a smack 'em yak 'em!"
  • Very well said. Agree completely.
  • I don't know I think there's different levels of "bitching about bitching" I'm all for saying get over it and have been saying it myself but nobody needs to lecture to anyone else do they?
I don't mean to offend anyone, a lot of what I say should be taken with a grain of salt... that said for most of you I'm a stranger on a computer on the other side of the world, don't give me that sort of power!
