Say what you want about Billy Corgan....

....but I'm watching the dvd's from the Gish and Siamese Dream reissues, and he's the only one rocking out. D'Arcy is barely moving, worrying about her perfectly cropped hair, Jimmy is showcasing his enormous arms and cut abs, and James is way too pretty to move his hair out of place either.
Billy rocks the fuck out the whole time. Poseur he's not.

I'm not a giant Smashing Pumpkins fan, but that's kind of been my feeling towards it too. There are many bands where the frontman/frontwoman is unduly given all the credit and the media focuses on them when they really should focus on the whole band. Pearl Jam was like that for some time. Then there are some bands where they really ARE the whole band. Billy Corgan with Smashing Pumpkins, Rob Zombie with White Zombie, those are just a couple that come to mind. Now I don't know if Billy wrote every song, but he wrote all the ones that anybody gave a damn about.
I saw Smashing Pumpkins live once when they opened for The Rolling Stones, and while I couldn't really see the drummer, Iha and Wretzky didn't do shit except for stand there and look sad.

Saw them 2008 was freaking brilliant, the first big live consert I where too.
So, I went to see them this year, damnnn. It was awfull I really think they can do good if they want to. But it felt like they just did a world tour to get cash or something..
They didnt out anything out to the crowed.. just 100% failure..
Buncha baldheaded kids roaming around wearing "Zero" tshirts. I was never too impressed with the band. That night sealed it. The band sounded terrible. The girl I was dating was just diagnosed with "depression" and she was rocking tha fock out next to me. It didn't seem right. Felt like the entire crowd was in need of a firehose fulla uppers that night. I left early. So shitty.
Only cool thing was Hum opened up for them... but we showed up late and I only caught two or three songs.

saw them twice, once in 1996 (and Billy mocked us about losing the Jets and making fun of the giant picture of the Queen hanging in the arena), then in 2000 on their farewell tour (where he AGAIN mocked us for STILL not having an NHL team). despite being a complete dick to the crowd, I have very good memories of those shows.

saw them both this year and in 2008 as well...2008 had the better song selection (meaning less new stuff), but his complaining about the venue being half-empty and people having no taste in music anymore was annoying. this time, they played a smaller place and he didn't say a word until the encore, when he really opened up and was chatty and joking around. weird guy.
he has written some great great songs, and SP were my fav bands for a long time, but the new songs don't really live up to the standards. nothing in there that really gets me. I've always really liked his voice too, probably one of the only ones. but he badmouthed the foos, which is not a good thing to be doing at a time when they've released one of the best albums of the year and you're giving people bits and pieces of low-quality new tracks.

Ya you never seen the pumpkins before?
Billy just slays so hard, I love his guitar mannerisms, and Jimmy is always grooving. Darcy doesn't really do too much and James does the odd bit of jumping etc

which is probably why he hasn't released a classic Pumpkins monster riff song since he left.
