The Beach Boys reunite - New Album, Tour...

Perhaps one of the strangest reunions to date...

http://www.thebeachboys.com/reunion/index.html

The Beach Boys were one of the first groups I got into when I was growing up, and my love for Brian Wilson has continued ever since. In that respect, I'm not sure how I feel about this reunion... I'm sure there's very little love remaining between these guys, and when I last saw Brian Wilson perform, in September, I couldn't help but feel that he deserved a good rest... as opposed to a 50-date international tour.

Then again, this tour will give others a chance to take vocals on songs Brian has been doing in the absence of any other Beach Boys, I just hope he doesn't become a prop for Mike Love (who has been performing with an alternate Beach Boys all these years) to sell more tickets with.

The new studio album will be interesting, and I'll be sure to pick it up, if only to hear a few more Brian Wilson original songs, which there haven't been many of in a while.

The main thing that strikes me about this reunion is that, unlike many other reunions or comebacks to date, the songs of the The Beach Boys have never really been that far away - Brian Wilson and Mike Love's Beach Boys have been touring regularly for years, so I'm not sure how much of a demand there will be for the tour.

That said, I'm sure I'll still go if they come near my neck of the woods. :-)

Any other fans out there with differing thoughts? :D

I wonder what all the people who paid to see the "Beach Boys" perform in recent years (I think they just came through here a few months ago) think of this "reunion".

I don't have a problem with this really, but it seems kind of hollow without the other two Wilson brothers. They're dead so I'm obviously not saying they should come back, and I've gone to see bands with only a partial lineup of original members, but I also have never seen them call it a "reunion", as that sort of implies that the original lineup is getting back together.

Just a cash grab...most of these reunions are that way...

 I saw the Beach Boys in 1989. I was in kindergarten, and saw them at Astroworld. Can't remember if John was with them cause I know he has played with them many many many times as an additional musician.

Seems like a cash grab, but it's good to see Brian functioning again. :-)

When a band puts out albums like Pet Sounds and SMiLE they can do as they please. At a certain point in their career, and if the band has paid their dues, I don't rip on most of what a group does. The Beach Boys' contribution to pop music, the 60's and the role of harmonies in music cannot be understated.
