I'm not really sure where this belongs so I apologize if its not here and I mean no disrespect to anyone. With that being said, I felt out of respect it was important to post. I'm sad to say Christopher Hitchens has lost his battle with cancer... :( I don't really know any details other then he was battling esophogeal cancer but I do know he inspired my girl and I. For those that don't know, Hitchens was a noted atheist, an award winning writer, author and contributing editor for Vanity Fair since 1994. In honor and to pay my respect for him, I will play Present Tense today and I will rock it as if there is no tomorrow!

R.I.P. Hitch, you inspired us all to think and you showed us all that true courage does not waiver, even while standing in the shadow of your own mortality. You will be missed!

  • That guy said what he needed to say and didn't care if people disagreed. Logical. Powerful.

Thankyou, I appreciate that. It's funny you should say that because for a second I thought, "should I post this?" Then I thought, "what would Hitch do?" ....and then I hit Submit.

They may announce more dates? We can only hope.

Weird thing is when I saw him on TV and such most of the time he was drinking and still destroying people with logic. Not the most likeable of guys, but who cares? Very smart and great perspective that many other people borrowed. Big loss that guy.

Thanks, lol...that's awesome. Enjoy it man, he would of.
  • Lol, "destroying people with logic"..luv it! Yeah, his fiery debate style deffinitely made for an interesting watch and its also part of what made him so unique. I loved it though. He debated over religion as if it was intentionally and personally insulting to his intelligence, lol which I'm sure he would agree.

Thanks for mentioning. I didn't realize he'd died. I don't share all of his beliefs but can't deny he was an intellectual giant and stretched the smaller minds of people like myself. I had the good fortune to watch him in a debate last year. His health was already waning at that point but he still insisted on being involved. R.I.P. to a incredible person.

  • Hey,
Just wanted to let everyone know that Vanity Fair has a nice little memorial on their website about him. I hope in the coming weeks to see some other interesting stories and pieces on him. If anyone hears about anything, please let us know? My girl and I will pay our respects today and thruout the weekend to him. I'm not a big whisky guy but I know he was so that will probably be my drink of choice. I'm really appreciative of all the posts as I was'nt sure how it would be taken. It cool to see that others apreciated him as well, even if you did'nt agree. Man am I gonna miss him. Thankyou Hitch. Thankyou for pushing the boundaries. Thankyou for making my head spin on more then 1 occasion and most of all, thankyou for standing up and having a voice for those of us that could'nt.
    Head down... :(

    Thats awesome!!
  • For those interested, Sam Harris wrote a really nice memoriam on Hitchens. If I can find the article again, I'll try to post it. For those interested that are'nt familiar with his work I would suggest you-tube to see him debating/interviews and Vanity Fair to read some of his numerous articles on a range of topics. He also published several great books including "God Is Not Great"-"How Religion Poisons Everything". He was a masterful debater and a beautiful writer and is deffinitely worth checking out even if you are of faith or don't agree with everything he says. He stood up for non-theist everywhere and did it in a way that was articulate and eloquent. Thankyou Hitch!

  • I know his death happened a few days ago but I just wanted to say that I will terribly miss Mr. Hitchens. He brought an unmatched sense of logic and understanding to the table.
