  • What kind of music to they currently listen to?

I've heard a few friends who are dating people who are NOT in to PJ say they have actually had good success with NEWER pearl jam tracks.

    Try:
    State of Love and Trust
    Hard to Imagine (outtake version)
    Red Mosquito
    In My Tree
    Smile
    Black Red Yellow
    Release
    Why Go
    Down
    Education
    Sad
    Let Me Sleep
    Patriot (BSB '92)
    Brain of J
    Cropduster
    Green Disease
    Life Wasted
    Marker in the Sand
Meaningless (Brass in Pocket \ jam)
    Porch (MTV Unplugged)
Naked Eye ('96? w\ sonic youth, i think)
The Waiting (w\ petty, any of 'em)
    Dock of the Bay
    The Kids Are Alright

    etc etc etc...

    PRETTY MUCH ANYTHING, THOUGH.
    PLAYED LOUD.

Also, if they have other favorite bands, try finding covers by PJ or colaborations.
If I was to smile and I held out my hand
If I opened it now would you not understand?
  • My wife (who was my new girlfriend at the time) was amazed that PJ was still around circa 2003. She was a big fan Ten thru Vitalogy but had drifted away (along with the throngs of others). On our first date I professed my devotion to the band and let her know SHE'D BE BACK. We traded some mix CD's and on the first one I put the One-Two combo of Untiltled and MFC. That was all it took!
    She's now back.
    Start with those two.......
Hey, hey. My, my. Rock and roll can never die.

"Why go home? I am home! And I gotta tell you, it feels FUCKIN GREAT to be here. You may experience this yourself but, if you were born in Chicago, you're always from Chicago. And even if you don't live in Chicago, Chicago will always live in you."-Ed
  • My boyfriend and I met in grad school in 2009. I wasn't really a PJ fan...only owning Ten at the time. As we began to get to know one another he told me he was a huge PJ fan and made me a mix cd with some of their stuff on it in so that I could familiarize myself with them a bit. The cd was awesome and he definitely accomplished what he had hoped (which was to show me how amazing PJ and their music was and to, in turn, make me a fan). The songs on the cd were all live versions rather than studio and included:
    Black
    Footsteps
    Come Back
    Better Man
    Daughter/It's Ok
    Faithful
    Down
    Gimme Some Truth
    Given To Fly
    Gone
    Harvest Moon
    Hide Your Love Away
    I Won't Back Down
    Immortality
    Indifference
    Insignificance
    Leaving Here
    Little Wing
    Love Boat Captain
    Nothingman
    Present Tense
    Release
    Small Town
    Throw Your Arms Around Me
    Thumbing My Way
    Wishlist
    Yellow Ledbetter

Hope this helps...or at least provides you a starting point! Good luck :)

Yes :) He gave me songs that he thought I would like based on what he had seen of my musical preferences. It worked, though...nearly 2 years later and I'm still his girl :D

i had to read the title twice because i thought it said "rape". kind of got me worried.

start from the beginning and work your way through their discography. that's how every band should be experienced.
  • totally depends on the person!!

One of my guy friends I started him with
    rearviewmirror
    Given to Fly
    Porch
    Corduroy
    Nothingman
    Black
    etc...

But for a girl friend who likes more mellow stuff she got:

    Elderly Woman
    Release
    The End
    Just Breathe
    Thumbing my way
    Betterman
    Black
    etc...

totally depends on the person and what they already like....

'Of The Girl' did it for me, I'd been aware of PJ, and liked some of the stuff I'd heard but once I heard this it set me off on my obsession. 5 minutes of magic!
