we have our big meal on Thanksgiving
    and then on Christmas
    We do a ham with orange/brown sugar/clove glaze...mmmmmm..... good
cut it up, keep it warm
Get some yummy yummy rolls from the local bakery
and do ham sandwiches and finger food during the day whenever anyone is hungry
later in the evening we do desserts and coffee/tea
and throughout it all we do the traditional egg nog, wine and christmas beer
this year we will have home brewed beer but my favorite is Sly Fox Christmas Ale ~ YUMMY!!!!!

xmas eve we do finger food and egg nog

traditional dessert on xmas in our house is home baked bread pudding

although everyone brings something yummy to go along with

    what about you?
    peace,
    jo

After Thanksgiving dinner we decide who is going to bring what "category" of food, meat, veg.,dessert.....for Christmas Then you bring what you want so its kind of a surprise or unknown, no body gets crazy but we try different stuff.

for me....Christmas Eve is the traditional seafood feast. (Yes I'm Italian) Somewhere between 7-10 different kinds fixed different ways. Usually by candlelight.

Christmas day is yet another feast. Spaghetti, meatballs, sausage. Ham and rolls. Veggies galore and sweets galore.

Ham! Ham is the star of the traditional Christmas meal. :D Then there's usually salmon, carrot, potato and swede casseroles, peas.. Probably some salad too.

It is turkey, with all the traditional trimmings...stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, jello salad. Up here in Canada we do Thanksgiving in October...so I am good and ready for turkey again!

Christmas Eve is cracked crab and Caesar salad - the family sits in church and we're all thinking about is getting home and eating crab. (Grown-ups get Manhattans, too.)

Christmas Day is like Thanksgiving but with apple stuffing instead of sausage. And we usually order a country ham and have country ham and biscuits throughout the holiday. I feel fat already.

    Christmas Eve Smörgåsbord

    Lots of Glögg throughout

First course: various breads, cheeses and smoked and pickled fish in every kind of mustard and wine sauce you can imagine, hard boiled eggs.

Second course: swedish meatballs of course, ham, cocktail franks (i never understood this) several kinds of potatos, red cabbage, mushroom and cream omelette, cauliflour, brussels sprouts

Dessert: fruit salad mixed with whipped cream and chocolate pieces, swedish cookies, ginger sponge cake

After dinner drink: Aquavit. Lots and lots of aquavit.

  • christmas eve is always ham, scalloped potatoes and green beans. Bleh...
I'm always asked to bring a salad and no one ever eats it.

christmas day is much better... huge beef tenderloin with horseradish sauce, lobster tails, mashed potatoes, asparagus and a good cabernet.

Growing up: Christmas eve it was lobster spaghetti; spaghetti with marinara sauce and bits of lobster. I didn't realize that there is a 7 seafood tradition (Italian?) as we stuck with the one seafood.

Christmas it was *Beef spaghetti* which is more of a bolognese sauce heavy on the mushrooms . . . it was awesome!

Now Christmas eve may be a surf N' Turf (lobster tail and steak) at my twin's house, and anything goes on Christmas. I'm usually there on Christmas to dog sit as her family visit's my brother-in-law's parents.

lobster spaghetti?!?!? now you're talking.

the 7 seafood is Italian. Sometimes we had 9 or 10. It's a big deal. Christmas Day was a meat fest! Still is.
