Sooo, this is one for the poster freaks!! I have a copy of the booklet from Flood Gallery's Led Zeppelin IV at 40 to give away! It measures about 6" x 8" and has two pages dedicated to each poster that was designed. One page has the poster image, the other has artist bio, song lyrics and a blurb from the artist about their inspiration for the print. I think this is really neat and couldn't believe they were giving it out for free at the gallery. Gallery site: http://thefloodgallery.com/
See pics below for cover and Jermaine's pages:
If you are interested, just answer the following by Thursday 12/15, 11:59PM EST:
Why do you buy concert posters?
I will select the answer I like best.
To start it off, I'll go. I first started buying posters just to the shows I went to just as an additional show memento. First print was MSG 2 2010 Donkey Kong. I now have full blown poster fever, thanks to having talked to some of the artists at the PJ20 poster convention and realizing just what a nice bunch of people they are (talked to Brad, Jermaine+wife+daughter and Coby Schultz from Ames).

started as something to remember the shows that i went to (2000, 2003). then after getting a Emek at the Kansas City 2010 show, it opened my eyes to the poster world and the different artists. now its an obsession.

First started like most peoplejust as a piece of merch, didn't think too much about it. Then online saw some of the work coming out and got really excited that this tradition was being kept alive. and as another expression of rock and roll as an art form, a lot of these pieces have come down to be the face or representation of the music and how artists interpret it. We as fans are lucky that we get to tap into that expression and collect(if we are lucky) some of these works.
Long may it continue.

I guess that is where I would confess to the rest of the users, that I became an addict. I bought almost every CCFA print from the Wishlist Foundation for the rest of the year/tour. I was an active participant, heart racing, fingers flinching every time 10C dropped another poster from the 06 tour. I was awake late at night when Klausen had his sales, and scored a bunch of great prints from 10C sales that were not advertised until the F5 button was scorched!
I started watching Emeks' site, and time after time got "store closed" until finally I got the Bee print. I watched and read with great interest when a bunch of the Santa barbara prints were torn to shreds and posted inside a bathroom! I bought print club subs to Dan MCcarthy, and was WOWed when I got the first one from him! So much Detail! I bought almost every Leia Bell print as she clumsily dropped them for sale on her new site. I called her and wanted to finish a collection and tried to find her location/small gallery in SLC before she moved into her current larger place. I remember the price changing as the inventory dropped...
I found Hampton and all his great work, and ordered the Obama print from him. I loved that I was able to 'speak' directly to him (through email) about some of his rare prints an he did his best to get me my fix. To have an artist dig through his archives for you feeels goood...
I took my daughter to see Adele, and knew Emek did a print but not for the Salt lake show. I contacted him and was able to get a print custom doodled by Emek to my daughter. So cool! He "drew" her name and cute butterflys!
I remember opening the Kenyon Hall I had scored on the 10C sale, and thinking "this is the shit" and then being able to grab the EV2008 prints at the one solo show I attended with my wife and two kids. I bought 3 of each... one for myself and one for each kid... thats a chunk of change. Who knows what they will do with them...
I remember hunting down the Bugs trio from 2000. I 'won' each one, and paid way too much for them. then spent HOURS on American Frame trying to decide what matting and what frame. They are still in the flat file, under the bed...
Oh I could go on...
Donating awesome prints to pre-parties.
Selling most of my collection of Klausens, Dusse, DC, Gorge, to pay for my mtn bike...
Sending tubes across the oceans to other fans.
The post office ladies! Oh how they love to see me and give me another tube that I will one day build a mini log cabin from!
Anyway..
I almost bought one of the Hampton Led Zep prints too, but have refrained. I want a new mtn bike, and I really have to keep this thing in check!
edit: almost forgot to mention the drama that these pieces of paper induces! How about the video taper got of the Evil Empire known as ________ and those damn flippers! Who can forget the Donkey Kong on the pisser floor for sale before the show was over!
im a fan of art primarily and then becoming a pj fan 10 years ago solidified my love of creativity , i have a decent sized collection but not over the top , say maybe 30 odd posters including the shows i have been to, plus around 10 by dan mccarthy

My interests tend to jump around a lot. Currently posters are at the top of the list.
I blame PJ20...
I've always tried to get the posters from the shows I've gone to. In between shows it's not something I'd ever put much thought into. I've always been an art collector. Mostly animation art...cels,dougas,backgrounds,etc.
When we got to Alpine and saw all the different posters I knew I was gonna leave broke.
On day 2 we buy a couple Hamptons. The merch guy tells us that there were variants of each poster mixed in and we just scored one. Commence online poster information hunt...Bad idea. You know how much cool stuff is out there??? Pretty much been downhill ever since.
So in the last four months the collection has gone from about 12 to 40+...
JMo didn't help any...
Thanks for the shot. Way to feed the addictions on here Suzie.
My wife bought a poster at the Pearl Jam Santa Barbara show in 2003 and I laughed at her..why would you want a poster I said? As the value started to shoot up I began to take notice and started buying posters at every show I went to, and then started going and getting the shows I was at but missed out on buying a poster because I didn't collect them. That took some time..hardest for awhile was San Diego 1995. I actually remember seeing the Ames Missoula poster in 1998, but walked past it. I really started to like Klausen's work and now have quite a great framed poster museum. In my living room I have framed U2/PJ Hawaii AP over the fireplace, next to a framed Kozik Green Lady, next to a Klausen DC, next to a Missoula 1998, next to a AP Vedder Chicago 2008.
It's not the posters that kills you..but the framing. I usually get one done every 3-4 months when Michaels has their 60% off sales.
I do it for the art, for the love of the band, for the memory of the show, and the fun of the hunt to collect all the shows I have been to.
Latest poster purchase..Emek Edmonton AP signed and doodled....
Then, I was going to restrain myself at AV, but heard that Hampton would sign the poster if you bought one, so that was next. I said - ok, that's it. I can get those hung in the house, but that's it.
Then, Pele came along. My wife even liked that one. Well, had to get one of those. Got a S/N AP, but missed out on the variant. Then, a great 10C'er was nice enough to trade me one of the gold gods. So, now I have the regular and variant Pele.
I actually almost bought a Charlie Brown Christmas Variant that you posted notification of, but came back off the ledge.
Then came the PJ20 Billboard - well, I had to get that one. So, cool, and the experience of it all. I'm in the process of talking my wife into hanging it. I pointed out it said 10 Club on it, and since my sons all wear #10 for soccer, I told her - that's OUR 10 club. The sales process is still going on with this one.
Now, I have 2 posters out for framing and another few I've since accumulated. At this point, I'm keeping myself to the rule of - either frame and hang them or don't get them. But, the chase on getting each one has been both nerve racking and exhilirating.
Love Led Zeppelin and these interpretations, but I could never hang these in the house, so I stayed out of it. Now, books, newspaper articles, magazines or anything else mentioning my favorite team, artists, musicians, etc. - Those are easily maneuvered....
Then I started buying the ones I really like the art in then Boston 98 (wish i still had that)
Thanks for the opportunity.
But maybe my personal reason is that iconic Woodstock poster that I've seen my entire life. I wasn't born yet but I have seen that dove on the guitar thousands of times. I've always loved rock posters from all eras so PJ has become my outlet for collecting posters- posters of my generation.
I really liked the art work, and since most things are expensive at concerts, I just chalked up the $12 price as "markup", rolled it up with a rubber band and made my way to the G.A. floor. It wasn't until a few days later when I unrolled it and really looked at the poster that I noticed that it was silk-screened, and beautifully done. The way the colors popped and just a great image of the city of Seattle getting blown up from a submarine.
Having just joined 10C in 1998, when I got my first newsletter (#13 I believe), I noticed on the back that they had left over posters from several shows at $12/each plus shipping, including Philly, Raleigh, L.A., New Zealand, Virginia Beach, Toronto/Montreal, Salt Lake, Rushmore, and Vancouver. I checked all of them off, put my check in the mail, and eagerly waited. A few weeks passed and the posters arrived ALL IN ONE big triangular mailer (how times have changed). All the posters were inside, with the exceptions of Vancouver, and Rushmore, because they had sold out of them in the time it took to process my order, so I was issued a refund of $24, that came in the form of a check from 10C.
After this I was full on addicted to posters. Through the 2000 tour I ordered any poster I could get my hands on through shows, the website, or ebay. This continued through 2006, where I noticed (at the time) I had over 70 posters. Then I thought to myself, do I really need all of these posters? Of course I didn't, but I was addicted to collecting them. There is no way I will ever be able to frame them all. Lately, I have been better about collecting posters to shows I have been to, and ones that really peak my interest, not just any I can get my hands on.
There is something about concert posters, and especially Pearl Jam ones that give you that feeling in your stomach, that I can only compare to opening your favorite present on Christmas morning as a child. Just pure excitement and joy. That is why I collect...it is also why I have a problem.
Gosh, don't know how I'm going to decide. Thanks for sharing everyone! Glad I'm not the only freak around
Goodluck to the winner just wanted to share but not win ill pass on it
